, Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of Feb. 16, 1904 Racing at New Orleans, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Stamping Ground is the first declaration from the Suburban Handicap. The mare hai been suffering from sickness nearly all winter and is only now slowly recovering. .Suburban declarations are due on February 20 and this one is the first received to date. Jockeys Ranch and Birkcnruth arrived in New York today and will sail on the St. Paul Saturday for France, where they will ride the coming season. Ranch is under contract to W. K. Vanderbilt, for whom he rode last year, when he headed the list of winning jockeys. Birkenruth has just been signed by J. S. McDonald to ride for Eduard Blanc. In- this stabh the newest American rider in France will have a good opportunity to show his worth. He will probably have the mount of M. Blancs preferred son of the Great Flying Fox, Ajax, or Gourtrant for the Epsom Derby. M. Blanc reserves for his stable all the get of the. famous Flying Fox and few boys that Lave gone abroad will have a better opportunity than Birkenruth, as Flying Fox get have shown unmistakable racing qualities. Winnie OConnor will also sail on the same boat with Ranch and Birkenruth to resume service with Baron Rothschild.
