BLEMTON STAKES ATTRACTS Forty-eight Nominators Enter 142 Juveniles in Amateur Event. . 4 First Fixturo Offered by United Hunts Racing Association Draws Much Digger Entry List Than Expected. NEW YORK, N. Y., Feb. 23. The Blem-ton Stakes, the feature event of the autumn meeting of the United Hunts Racing Association, is closing in a way that is most encouraging to the management, 112 entries from forty-eight individual nominators having been received thus far. It is thought that the number will be fully 150 when all the mails are at hand. President John McEntee Bowman was particularly pleased over the fact that every prominent owner in the East has rallied to the cause of amateur sport. Among the stables represented are the Greentree Stable, Gifford A. Cochran, the Glen Riddle Stable, which will be represented by the first of the produce of Man o War ; Joseph E. and George D. Widener, II. K. Knapp, Sanford Stud Farm, J. S. Cosden, w! R. Coe, Mr. and Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords, Richard T. Wilson, Fair Stable Mrs. W.K. Vanderbilt II., Lawrence Waterbury, Mrs. E. B. Cas-satt, Marshall Field, August Belmont, Robert L. Gerry, Rancocas Stable, J. K. L. Ross, J. E. Madden, Leona Farm, Harry Payne Whitney, Archibald Barklie and William Woodward. BELMONT FILLY ENTERED. Major Belmont, in whose honor the stake was named, has entered the beautiful bay filly Pastille, by the Derby winner Lemberg, from Pasta, while J. K. L. Ross has named Caduceus, by Cudgel or Sir Barton, from Melody, by Meddler ; Marshall Field has entered Ensuaved, by Valens, from Rezende, and Robert L. Gerry has named Emissary, by Ambassador IV. Temptation. Harry Payne Whitneys seven entries are by Pennant, Peter Pan, Johren, Broomstick, and Whisk Broom II. ; John E. Madden, the most liberal patron of the Blemton, has named ten by Sir Martin, Spanish Prince II. and Friar Rock, while the half dozen nominated by the Rancocas Stable are by Purchase, Iluon, Vulcain, Friar Rock and King James ; Joseph E. Wideners trio are by Hourless, Flittergold and Wrack; Gifford -A. Cochrans entries include colts and fillies by Negofol, Sweep, The Finn, North Star III., Peter Tan and His Majesty ; William Woodwards three juveniles from his Belair Stud are by Ambassador IV. and Omar Khayyam, and the J. S. Cosden entry includes two colts by The Finn and Wrack.
