OMAHAS AMBITIOUS PLANS Seven Stake Races Provided for Coming Spring Meeting. No Pnrse Less Than 00 "With Liberal Sprinkling- of , 00 and 00 Overnight Races. OMAHA. Neb., March S. Secretary Charles L. Trimble, of the Ak-Sar-Ben Exposition Company of this city, will distribute the books for the first seven days of the coming: spring races at Omaha next week. Dr. F. "W. Ashe has been secured to act as presiding judge. This will be the first spring meeting that this association will be without the services of judge Martin Nathanson, of Chicago, who was greatly responsible for Omaha coming to the front so rapidly in a racing way. Judge Nathanson has retired as a racing official and is now manager of the Hertz breeding farm at Cary, 111. The Omaha program book will call for an average distribution of ,300 daily, covering the first seven days racing, and there will be twenty racing days, beginning Saturday, May 31. Terry Reed and N. J. Ronin, who will act with judge Ashe, are both pioneers in Nebraskas racing; T. J. Brown will act as clerk of the scales. John Carey will be paddock judge. There are six races written in the book and the seventh will be a split of the race filling the best. There are a number of horses on the ground at present and Mr. Trimble goes to Tijuana next week to arrange for a large shipment of horses from California. "Work has commenced on the new stables to be erected and track superintendent James Ronin has promised to have them entirely completed in due time. Those desiring stable room should make application early to be sure of reservation. Following is a list and dates of the stakes to be decided during the meeting: Speed Inaugural Handicap Purse 000, all ages, Saturday, May 31; weights and acceptances, Friday, May 30; five and one-half furlongs. Ak-Sar-Ben Queens Plate Handicap Purse ,000 and plate. All ages, "Wednesday, June ; weights and acceptances, Tuesday, June 3 ; three-quarters of a mile. Ak-Sar-Ben Kings Derby Handicap Purse ,500 and cup, three-year-olds and over, Saturday. June 7; weights and acceptances, Friday, June C; one and one-eighth miles. Omaha Chamber of Commerce Handicar Purso ,000 and cup, Saturday, June 14, for three-year-olds and upward. Weights and acceptances, Friday, June 13 ; one mlie. Nebraska Handicap Purse ,000. For three-year-olds and over, Thursday, June 19. Weights and acceptances, Wednesday, June IS ; one and one-sixteenth miles. Stock Yards Handicap Purse ,000. For three-year-olds and over, Saturday, June 21. Weights and acceptances, Friday, June 20 ; one and one-quarter miles. The entries to the above named handicaps close Thursday, May 29. Six other purses of ; six of 00, and six of 00 will be given during the meeting. There will be no purse less than 00.
