The third running of the Louisiana Derby has attracted fourteen of the best three-year-olds in these parts and should the entire carded list go to the post it will be worth 5,100 net to the winner, the richest stake that has ever been raced for in the vicinity of New Orleans. Of the fourteen named three stand out prominently in the publics eye. They are Black Gold, Thorndale and Rinkey. The trio will be handled by the best riding talent available here. The two celts and filly will absorb most of the betting attention in the race. Black andGoId and Thorndale will furnish a betting duel by their partisans. In tho estimation of the layers and critics there is little to choose between them. Black Gold in his only two starts this year has been triumphant. His last essay, while not outstandingly impressive, however, furnished the line on his ability to go a long route. Thorndales supporters are depending on their champions proved fact that he can go a mile and an eighth and also base their belief for victory on the nine-pound weight concession that Black Gold is giving him. Khc Greentree Stable has an entry in the race Dazzler and Rinkey. The former ia not regarded with any degree of seriousness. The mainstay is Rinkey. She will be benefitted by Parkes presence in the saddle and also that she will only carry 112 pounds, five pounds less than Thorndale and fourteen Usa than Black Gold. Little consideration is given the others and they range in price from 20 to 1 to 100 to 1. There will be some support for Blotter on account of his being locally owned and also the fact that Amole, a stable companion, accounted for the prize last year.
