Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of March 16, 1904 Racing at New Orleans, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Hot Springs. Probably the most sensational work of the past week among the candidates for the Mont- gomery Handicap was made by McGee, which is scheduled to carry the green and white sash of Ed Corrigan in the big stake. Rampooza, a four-year-old gelding, belonging to Capt. R. R. RJcc, the Arkansas turfman, was the bright particular star in the future betting on the Montgomery Handicap last Monday, two large commissions being placed on his chances to finish first in the big event, William Murray, starter Fitzgeralds first assistant, was notified by Secretary Macfarlan last Tuesday of his appointment as starter by the New Memphis Jockey Club. Murray will leave at the close of the New Orleans meeting for Memphis, and will be on hand all next week at Montgomery Park to help school the two-year-olds at the Memphis track.
