THOMAS A. COMBS NOTIFIED Chairman of New Kentucky Racing Commission to Call Meeting for Next Week. LEXINGTON, Ky., March 20. Former state senator Thomas A. Combs of Lexington was notified today that Governor William J. Fields has designated him as the member to call together the newly appointed State Racing Commission for its first meeting. Senator Combs, this afternoon, said that he had not decided upon the date for the meeting, but that it would be held one day next week. "I desire to select a date that will be agreeable to the members of the commission and likewise to those who may have business with the commission," said he. Senator Combs, by appointment of Governor A. O. Stanley, formerly served as a member of the commission, so he is fully conversant with its affairs. It is expected that he will be chosen to be chairman. Polk Laffoon of Covington, who is the only one of the expired commission reappointed, is expected to be named vice-chairman. He made a splendid record on the previous commission and like Senator Combs is popular throughout the state. The other three members of the commission have never before served, they being Charles G. Middleton, Louisville; Walter I. Kohn, Louisville, and Gemel B. Senff, Mt. Sterling. The secretary will be Sigsby Sherwood of Lexington, a popular young newspaper man, whose home formerly was at Bellevue, Ky. Dates for the spring meeting will he allotted at the first meeting of the commission.
