HOME-BREDS GO TO BOWIE Joseph L. Murphy Is to Race Four Three -Year-Olds That He Bred at His Phoenixville Farm. BALTIMORE, Md., March 20. Joseph L.. Murphy, of Philadelphia, will take the field at Bowie in April with a string of four homebred three-year-olds, the produce of his modest stud at Phoenixville, Pa., where Flitter-gold made his first season. These horses, all new to racing, arrived at Prince George Park last week in the charge of James llealey, Sr., whose son, James ITealey, Jr., campaigned Spot Cash and the other members of the stable of A. C. Bost-wick of New York tjirough Canada last year with conspicuous success. ITealey, pere, was one of the most successful trotting hores trainers in the United States in the years the late Michael Murphy, father of Joseph L., was a picturesque figure in harness racing. Twenty odd years ago when Michael Murphy took up the running turf the elder ITealey trained Bafaello, James V., Easeful and other successful thoroughbreds for him on the metropolitan turf. Ita-faello was the contender in 1900 in Kinley Macks Brooklyn Handicap. ITealey, junior, learned the art of training under his father. The Phoenixville hopefuls in the elder Hea-leys barn training for the spring meeting of the Southern Maryland Agricultural Association that will begin April 1, to continue twelve days, are : Super King, ch. g, by Sea King Supererogate ; Garish, b. f, by Gargoyle, dam Lynette ; Glittergold, ch. g, by Flittergold, dam Golden List, and Ligure, b. f. by Flittergold, dam Elastique II. Glittergold and Ligure were bred by Mr. Murphy before he sold Flittergold, an own brother of Fair Tlay, to Philip T. . Chinn for service at the Himyar Stud in Kentucky. Glittcrgolds mother is a llect daughter of Golden Maxim and Listless, she a daughter of Voter, which which IT. G. Bedwell won many races several years back. Supererogate is a daughter of Superman and Coppelia, she by Kingston and a, half-sister of .Ballot. Gargoyle, the sire of Garish, is an Irish jumper James llealey, Jr., trained for John Lumsdcn of Ottawa.
