Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of March 21, 1904 Racing at San Francisco, Los Angeles and Little Rock. Jockey Arthur Rcdfern is back again in the East and was at his home at Besonhurst, L. I., last Friday. One of the first things he did on his arrival was to call up the office of the Jockey Club and inquire if action had been taken by the stewards onhis application for a jockeys licenss for the coming season. Red-fern was plainly intent on knowing at the earliest possible moment the attitude of the Jockey Club toward him on account of the difficulties in which he got with the officials at Los Angeles, where he had been riding with success the greater part of the winter. As a matter of fact, Redfern had nothing to fear from the Jockey Club, as no official intimation had come to that body that the rider had trangressed in any way the rules of the course over which he was riding. At all events, the fact that Redfern, after having summarily been ruled off for refusing to ride a horse after he had consented to do so at the request of the Los Angeles stewards, made an apology and was restored to all privileges, left him in perfectly good standing with the racing authorities of the East. His application for a license was made in the regular way and was acted upon favorably.
