PINDAR PEEL EASILY • Makes Amends for Saturdays Defeat by Scoring Hollow Victory. ♦ — Track Deep and Holding After Heavy Rains — Ike Weil Wins Substitute Race. ♦ LOKISVILLK. Ky.. May 12.— Peter Coynes Pindar Peel, which was unlucky to lose his initial start Saturday, made amends this afternoon by Feoring a hollow victory in the Pendennis Club Handicap, featuring Churchill Downs" card. The race was at a mile and brought to the post five fairly good ones. Pindar Peel and Actuary being coupled, be-CMW both were trained by Coyne. Brilliant Cast and Blue Nose represented the Idle Hour Farm Stable, making the race practically a three-horse affair. Pindar IVol and Actuary were prohibitive favorites and justified the confidence by I racing away from the others soon after the j Mart. Actuary had the burden of pace-making, Ptodar Pel being under hard restraint. M.Dormott gave him full play just before reaching the stretch and the eoSJtest was virtually over here as far as first was concerned. Actuary seemed to Iionrrj have second place secure, but suddenly be j h. gan wavering and P.lue Nose, coming with I rapid strides, almost nipped him at the finish. COttUettis riding near the end was of de-idedly weak character and had P.lue NJose go* ten up. the indifferent ride that | Coltlletti put up would have been respon-j sible. Hanging clouds blanketed the course all during the afternoon, threatening a down- , pour, and caused the atendance to be below j the standard. It was surprisingly big. con- I sidering the unpropitious weather and the condition of the track. Heavy rains caused it t i be deep and holding and resulted in an eagerness on the part of owners to withdraw their charge* The original fourth rac a was riddled. ne . •ssitating the substitution of an- | Other race. Close finishes marked the run- | ning of most of the dashes and entertaining sport was the order throughout the afternoon. • The substituted dash was at three-quarters and it enabled the hieagoan, I. Weil, to land his first purse of the season when The Punt I led for the • ntire way and beat out another j I Chicago-owned one. Sequel. The favorite. I Napoo, finished in third place. BKK1.CH1 IKii ■ A II ROW I. Y. ! Th a mile introductory brought to the post I thirteen three-year-olds of the m -diocre order and it resulted in a victory for Breech- j | J.. nli r. after a strenuous drive to outstay Amity Claim. Both final contenders were 1 j vietirns of poor riding. Breechloader getting up in the last stride after s -emingly lM-ing hopelessly out of it in the early stages. I i New ffeaaty. the favorite, finished third, having made a gallant try, but finding the nut- dastaace a bit too far. The maiden filly two-year-old race re-s sited in another spirited finish, with C. T. Murphys Maximaneh, a daughter of dolden Maxim Kar.inaneh. a lucky winner by a nose from Hutch Girt, with Bit o Honey in third place. Properly ridden Hutch Oirl would have won off. Her rider allowed her to swerve badly at critical junctures and his riding at finish was weak. Bit o Honey also anM allowed to race wide. There was considerable activity about the Oreentree Stables Trifling and she led at one stage. but the energ ticness of Lilley caused her to quit under punishment. THKII.I.INC FINISH. The mile and a sixteenth was another thrilling finish with Prince K. and Kinhurn the contending s. Prince K. winning by a small margin. At one stage Prince K. appeared hop. lessly out of it, but he passed out those immediately in front of him steadily and, going after the leaders determinedly, headed Kinburn near the end. Carnarvon, which had raced with Kinburn as a team in the eaily stages, proved much the better of the others and landed in third place. Flow-r Simp, an early contendi r raced .is if short. The sixth race, m wliieh twelve young.-ters took part, furnished also a hard battle between four of tie- leaders, Fuo. carrying the Audley Farm Stable*! color*, just getting up to down Bed Beth, with Sam Mengel only a bead farther back and Wuhu the same distan ••■ in back of the placed trio. Several of the contenders were forced out of it at thfl slart, where there was some crowding by the outside post positioned ones coming across. The concluding race was won by Pequot from Allie hs, with Buby landing in third place. The winner raced as if mueh the best, but gave hi.s backers eoaoom in the early Stages by blading, fax out of it.
