TURF NEWS OF THE DAY FROM BELMONT PARK NEW YORK, May 23. Preston Burch, with the Nevada Stock Farm Stable, was an arrival from Baltimore. A public sale of horses in charge of Charles F. Hill will be held in the paddock at noon Saturday. The stable that Carroll Schilling raced at Churchill Downs for G. A. Cochran is expected back at Belmont Park early next week. Ten horses, the property of the Crow Point Stable, in charge of Robert Forman, will be shipped to Chicago to take part in racing at that point. George Read has received word from Horace N. Davis announcing that his mare Pavia has foaled a fine filly by Black Toney at the Blue Heights Farm. Jockey Dawson, under contract to James Fitzsimmons, made his riding debut today. He rode in Havana last winter and his engagements will be looked after by Harold Goodwin. Word was received from Cincinnati yesterday that John A. Payne, prominent insurance man and owner, had died at his home in that city. The news was a shock to his many Eastern friends. J. I. Smith left today with a division of the W. S. Kilmer Stable that is to be raced at Blue Bonnets. Exterminator heads the band, which is made up of seven head. Sun-magne. Menthol, Sun Hope, Sun Carries, Cragthorn and Sun Light are the others.
