SPOT CASH BEATS CHACOLET Scores Length Victory Over Head-ley Mare in Dominion Handicap. General Thatcher Finishes Third Jockey Itnkcr Hides Two "Winners "War Tank Captures Second Race. FORT ERIE, Ont., Aug. 14. Spot Cash defeated Chacolct by a length in the Dominion Handicap this afternoon and earned ,875 for A. C. Bostwick. General Thatcher was beaten four lengths for the ,500 portion of the added money that fell to the H. P. Headley mare, Peddler, a stablemate of Spot Cash, completed the field. He was six lengths ueiiind General unatcher at the end of the one mhe and a quarter. Spot Cash carried 127 pounds and ran the distance in 2:12 oyer an extremely heavy track and he was fully extended to win. Scobie rode the son cf Broomstick Payment well. He took him to the front at the rise of the barrier and, setting the pace, chose the better going. On the first turn Peddler was lapped on Spot Cash. General x.iatcher was running in tnird position at the iime, a lengtn behind Peddler. McDer-mott, on Chacolet, had a restraining hold cn the mare. On the bacKstretch the procession passed without changing their positions. At the half-mile post General Thatcher passed Peddler when the latter began tiring. Nearing the stretch Spot Cash was still in front by two lengths and General Thatcher was a length in front of unacolet. Here occurred the only unfortunate incident of the contest. As General Thatcner began to falter after his short spurt, Wallace tcok him wide and carried Chacolet with him. The mare was knocked off her stride, but recovered quickly and started in pursuit of Spot Cash when straightening out in the stretch. At the eighth post she was within half a length of him. Spot Cash, however, had speed in reserve and drew away from ncr by a length. The wea,ther was ideally cool and the crowd large. About G,;U0 people witnessed the racing. Oland raced past the leaders at the head of the stretch and drew into a lead of a length at the end of five furlongs in the opening race, which engaged nine two-year-olds. In a poor exhibition of riding on the part of all concerned, M. Gormans AVar Tank carried 1C Hallman to the front end of a six furlong procession that was the second race. AVar Tank was in front all the way. Speyroyal - finished second and Flowerf ul third. The condition called for maiden riders. AVedding Prince ran one of his good races today and finished in front of Servitor in the third race, which was at one mile and a sixteenth. Hartelle captured second place. Baker had Mrs. G. II. Abbotts gelding in third position from the start and went to the front while rounding the far turn and won by a length. Hartelle came from far back to win his portion of the purse. Marie Dattner carried 11 C pounds through the heavy going to a four-length victory over Betty Maloney in a race at five and a half furlongs for two-year-olds, the fourth on the program. J. Francis rushed her into a long early lead arid saved ground all the way with the J. Samuels filly. Betty Maloney raced in second position all the way but had to be ridden out to outstay Sea Fairy by a length. Oil Man, with F. J. Baker in the saddle, completed a double for the rider and the stable of Mrs. G. IT. Abbott by winning the sixth race. He took the lead from Peggy O. at the half mile post and won easily by six lengths. Peggy O. held on gamely for second place, a neck in advance of Pablo, which came from last place. The winner pulled up lame, while Lion dOr broke down. The race was at six furlongs. IT. G. Bedwells Plow Steel set the pace in the seventh all the way and completed the mile and a sixteenth two and a half lengths in advance of Apology. J. Stevens rode the winner. Yorkist came from far back to take third place.
