GO FOIN VICTORIOUS Captures Elgin Handicap, Tuesdays Feature at Aurora. Improved Weather and Track Brings Out Larger Crowd Chaplet By a Head. AURORA, 111., Sept 9. The fourth and feature race on the program, the Elgin Handicap, fell to B. A. Jones Go Foin after a. drive with W. C. Weants Moss Fox II., which beat M. Shapoffs Alleden by three lengths for second place. Right on Time, the other starter, was last beaten off. Gross scored his second win cf the day when he rode Go Foin to victory. He sent the bay son of Atheling II. Thrifty to tne front soon after the start and after setting all the pace won under a mild hand ride. Moss Fox II. made a bid at the eighth post, but cculd not overhaul the winner. Alleden, which was trailed far back in the early stages, made up some ground to be third easily ahead of A. S. Eastmans Right on Time, which can do much better. The race from a time standpoint was a good one, the winner covering the distance in 1:13. There was a decided increase in the attendance and the talent fared well. The card was featured by winning choices and the layers suffered to quite an extent, as the winners were well supported. The track was fast and the weather was all that could be desired for racing. IDLE SETH EASILY. The first race of the day, a five-eighths dash for two-year-olds, went to the well-backed favorite Idle Seth in easy fashion from E. Krajaics Full of Pep, with M. Lowensteins Miss Emmert a long-shot third. After a short delay at the post, due to the fractiousness of Idle Seth, they were off in good aligment Idle Seth was the first to show out of the bunch, with Full of Pep, Miss Emmert and Glory running in the order named. They ran this way to the stretch, where Glory weakened and Gross sent Idle Seth into a comforatable lead. Miss Emmert, which had been running third, moved up to second, with Full of Pep dropping back to third. The finish saw Idle Seth an easy winner, but Full of Pep came again, beating Miss Emmert by three lengths. Thats the Time, which was well backed, failed to get any part of the purse. The diminutive Montgomery piloted the second winner when he scored on W. A. Baumgartners Theo, the well-backed favorite. T. E. Crists Whalebone was second and Li. E. Moores Haleakala was third. Off in good order Saucier sent Whalebone right to the front, with Leslie and Theo running in the order named. Haleakala was leading the remanider of the field, that were pretty well bunched at the stretch turn. Leslie dropped out of it and it was here that Montgomery sent Theo up to Whalebone, and after a brief struggle with Whalebone soon had his mount in front. Haleakala, which had been trailing in the early stages, came with a rush but seemed to falter after racing to a contending position. Theo won going away, with Whalebone second, three lengths in front of Haleakala. HOT BEATS BLACK GRACKLE. Seven fair platers paraded for the fifth, at one mile and a sixteenth, with M. Shapoffs Hoy the winner and J. J. Ahearns Black Grackle second, a length and a half in front of the Derby Stables Margaret Ware. The start was good and Jones sent Black Grackle right to the lead, with Margaret Ware and Cypreme in close pursuit. Dobson was leading the remainder of the field, that was pretty well bunched at the turn cut of the backstretch. Taylor sent Dobson up to second position and Fronk started his run with Hoy, which had been following along in a good position. Black Grackle led the field into the stretch, where Dobson fell back beaten. It was at this point that Fronk started his vigorous ride that landed Hoy a winner by a half length in front of Black Grackle, with. Margaret Ware third. The last race of the day was won by Chap-let by a head after a stretch: duel with J. Bests Little Ann, which beat Furor by a half length for third money. McDonald sent Furor to the front at the start and caused a big jam, doing it as he came over in front of all the horses on the inside, but Chaplet was lucky to escape interference, as he began fast and was clear when the jam came. Furor led up the backstretch with Little Ann, Chaplet and Bon Fire running in the order named. They ran this way to the turn on ; the backstretch, where Iuror started to drop back. Billy Watts went into the lead briefly, but Chaplet caught him at the eighth post and came on to win in a driving finish from Little Ann, which raced gamely throughout the entire race. Furor, the early pacemaker, was third. Billy Watts quit when the real racing began. A. McDonald, who rode Furor, was set down for ten days for rough riding in this race
