MOURN EQUINE FAVORITE Slab to Mark Resting Place of Popular Mountain Rose II. His Racing Record. LAUREL, Md., Oct 25. Sentiment in racing cropped out Friday night when Mountain Rose II. broke down so badly that it was necessary to destroy him. B. Chapman, owner of the old Yankee gelding, bowed his head over the track rail and wept when Dr. H. J. McCarthy sent the fatal bullet into the horses brain. It was proposed to send the carcass off to a glue factory, but Chapman would not permit it He caused a grave to be dug back of the race track and a slab will mark the resting place of tho old campaigner that won many a raco for Chapman. Mountain Rose II. was a veteran and useful plater that was campaigned over the various racetracks of the country for the last eight years. His most successful year was 1923, when he won eleven out of twenty-seven starts and 1,365. Altogether he started in 15G races, of which he won thirty-nine and 8,069.
