GEN. HALDEMAN DEAD LOUIS VILLE, Ky., Oct. 27. There was genuine sadness among the big throng of clubhouse visitors at Churchill Downs when it was learned that General W. B. Haldeman, prominent figure in Kentucky, had died almost instantly after being stricken with a heart attack. General Halde-man, surrounded by relatives, was in one of the clubhouse boxes, seemingly in fine health and enjoying the sport and attending incidents, when he suddenly toppled over in an instant. He was carried hurriedly to the tracks emergency hospital, where several doctors gave what aid possible, but he died soon after. General Haldeman was an ardent devotee of the sport. He served several terms as a member of the Kentucky State Racing Commission, and when owner of the Courier-Journal and Louisville Times, advocated strongly for racings cause. He was always a conspicuous figure of the racing at Churchill Downs and frequently made trips to Latonia and Saratoga to enjoy the sport.
