The Belvidere Purse, at a mile and an eighth, for three-year-olds, and the three-quarters of the Pikesville Purse, for two-year-olds, run as the fourth and fifth races, were supplementary attractions on the flat and both furnished interesting sport. The Belvidere saAV Rustic come back after his good race in the Washington Handicap at Laurel Saturday, in which he finished third, and win like the good colt he is. The Pikesville Purse produced a thrilling finish, in which W. S. Kilmers Sunny Man qualified for the Pimlico Futurity when he took up 125 pounds and beat such a good colt as H. P. Whitneys Candy Kid, carrying 115 pounds, by a neck and after a stirring stretch duel. In tho running of the Manly Memorial Steeplechase, it Avas old-Courteous from W. J. PIMLICO MEETING OPENS Continued from first page. strength of todays race he looms up as a formidable opponent. The Greentree1 Stables" Cherry Pie, under" the guidance of Ivan Parke, made the pace in the sixth and held on gamely to win by a length and a half from Reparation. The others were beaten off. The race was the Madison Handicap at a mile and seventy-yards. It was expected that Priscilla Ruley would be the most dangerous rival of Cherry Pie, but the Belair stud filly was unprepared at the start and got off so .badly that she had little chance to overtake the leaders. She closed a big gap and just failed to beat Senator Norris for third money. The contest practically developed into a duel between Cherry Pie and Reparation with the above mentioned result. Alex Woodliffe made all the pace in thi opener and won by a length from Wuhu, which pressed him closest all the way. Old Broadway was third. Leyland had the leg on the victorious carrier of the colors o C. Pillon. The son of Torchbearer began rapidly as usual and saved ground all the way. Beginning on the far turn he widened the gap on his opponents as if about to make a runaway of it, but came back as per custom in the stretch run, although holding? on better than usual to get the award. Wuhu was gaining on the leader at the end and, beat Old Broadway by a length and a half for second place. Sprinters of all ages to the number of ten paraded for the third race with Dimmesdale around which the talent centered their speculation. The favorite began quickest of all and making every post a winning one was home three lengths in front of-Eager, while the latter held Apex safe for second place. Eager raced in closest pursuit of the pacemaker and though finishing in resolute fashion, could not overtake Dimmesdale. Old Mercury was prominent for the greater part of the race, but tired suddenly in the stretch and finished absolutely last. There was a sparkling finish with the running of the mile and three-sixteenths of the seventh race, when Insulate got up in the last few strides to beat Altissimb, the latter being but a neck in front of Wrackhorn. It was Altissimo that made the pace, but weakened when put to a drive. Golden Cup was always close up but when Insulate and Wrackhorn challenged, gave way,, while the last eighth saw a battle royal between Insulate, Wrackhorn and Altissimo, the result being in doubt until the judges announced their decision. Robert Benton claimed P. S. P. Randolphs Sea Tide for ,S00.
