Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of Dec. 12, 1904 Racing at San Francisco, Los Angeles and New Orleans. Mrs. H. Dernhams good three-year-old Spencerian took a good band of sprinters into camp in the all aged handicap, a one mib affair which featured the New Orleans program. Only four started and when the barrier arose Luralight went into a short lead, which he held until they had swung past the three-quarters post, where Nicol sent Spencerian after the leader and he rapidly overhauled him and then began a duel which lasted until the final strides. Spencerian hung on gamely and forced Luralight to give it up right at the end. The winners . margin was three-quarters of a length,, Gus Heidorn was third, beating-out- the two--year-oidMatador for the short portiom of the: purse.
