Black Gold Pulls Up Lame BLACK GOLD. LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 9.— Black Gold, last years Kentucky Derby winner, which arrived a few days ago from winter quarters in Lexington, pulled up quite lame after being galloped at the Downs yesterday, and it is feared that the crack racer may not be able to race this spring. The lameness comes from the left front foot, and trainer Harley Webb believes it is due to the horse having picked up a nail, causing the foot to spread. Just how serious the injury is could not be determined. Trainer Webb was much downcast over the injury, as the horse had been training soundly all spring and gave every indication of being ready early. The horse had been entered in all the stake fixtures in Kentucky and trainer Wobb had entertained high hopes for another triumphal year. He will be grievously disappointed should the injury force the retirement from racing of the horse.
