BIG PRICE FOR CONTRACT E. R. Bradley Pays 0,000 for Apprentice Rider — Greentree Stable Signs G. Ellis. TIJUANA, Mex.. April 18.— When John W. Marchbank, San Francisco turfman, purchased for 0,000 the contract on apprentice rider G. "Dickie" Johnson from W. J. Jennings, he is said to have been acting for Colonel E. R. Bradley. Johnson can do 84 pounds and horsemen at Tijuana vote him the best riding prospect seen in many years. He rides every type of horse capably and handles two-year-olds on a par with any rider here. It has not been decided when he will report to the Bradley Stable. He has been under a sort of chaperonage of Bert Johns, trainer for Marchbank, for some time and Johns is said to have been responsible for the sale. C. W. Primrose announced today that Mrs. Payne Whitney has purchased from C. A. Hartwell, Honolulu turfman, the contract he held on jockey George Ellis. Terms were not given out, but the contract runs until April of next year with the privilege of a two-year renewal, which it is said Mrs. Whitney will take advantage of. Ellis left for his home in Idaho immediately after his victory on Sunspero in the Tijuana Cup last Sunday and has been ordered to report to trainer Vincent Powers at Belmont Park before the opening cf the New York season. The stable of William Walker was shipped this morning to Wroodbine Park, Toronto. The horses of James C. McGill of Los Angeles, Calif., and nephew of the late "Pittsburgh Phil," leave Tuesday for Churchill Downs, where they will be raced by trainer Harry Unna. Spic and Span. Fabian, Russell Gardner and the veteran Dominique are in this string. John B. McKee also will entrain Tuesday with Sunspero, Elector and a saddle pony belonging to Hamilton H. Cotton of Los Angeles, a newcomer to the sport, who races under the nom de turf of La Brae Stable. 1
