MORE RAIN AT LOUISVILLE Training Operations Retarded Because of Adverse Conditions. Trainer Mose Shapoff Here. LOriSVILLK. Ky., April S.-Training operations at the local courses was halted abruptly again this morning when the going was found to be in wretched condition from the hard rain of last night, while a steady downpour greeted the conditioners of horses throughout the entire morning hours, which are devoted to training operations. Derby candidates and other thoroughbreds were given canters and slow gallops. Mose Shapoff. manager-trainer of the G. Frank Croissant stable. returned from Tijuana last night and paid a visit to the local tracks. The horses of the Croissant stable have been at the Douglas Bark track for several days in charge of Hobby Beeves since their arival from Miami. Kentucky Cardinal, Boycrofter, the Derby candidates from the stable, Dry Moon and New Dhre, which raced at the Lower California track, are on their way to Churchill Downs. Shapoff thinks Boycrofter will give a good account of himself in the Derby and especially if the track should be muddy. He will give his undivided attention to the Croissant horses and get them ready for the spring campaign at Lexington and Louisville. Heinie Neusteter and L. A. Connor, assistant trainers to Shapoff. will be assigned some of the horses in the big band of the Chicago owner to race at Collinsville or other points where early racing is contemplated. Sammy Steel, the contract rider for the stable, is showing steady improvement from the injuries he received as a result of a fall sustained during the Miami meeting.
