Dick Welles* Selections At Lexington MEDDLING MATTIE— PRF.CIOU8 I.ULA— XTRA. MEDDLING MATTIE outclasses those which meet in the first race over the Futurity Course distance. She was fairly consistent while racing at New Orleans, and since her arrival here has turned in plenty of pood trials. The distance should be well suited to her, and we look for her to be the easiest kind of a winner. PRECIOUS LULA ran some good races last year and can do much better than her race last Saturday would indicate. XTRA also went poorly in the same race, but is expected to show to much better advantage today. GOLDEN TOP— EDEX— AQUITAMA. Of the eighteen entered in the second race but a few of them have faced the starter as yet EDENS record is the most imposing of those who have been seen with colors up. but the best we can see for her is the place. GOLDEN TOP, a daughter of Golden Brcom, is the one picked to win. She is a first-time starter, but a reported good one, and a race to her workouts would undoubtedly find her home the winner. AQUITAN1A, another first time starter, is chosen to finish third on the strength of her morning trials. INDIAXAPOMS— BLUE TORCH— FLTIXG SPARK. INDIANAPOLIS failed miserably last year as a two-year-old, after being made the favorite in almost all her starts. She is the kind of a filly that runs her race in the morning while being given a prep for a race. Whether or not she is going to continue in that manner as a three-year-old remains to be seen. She has shown plenty of speed in her work and were she to run in the same mood today, think she could score here. BLUE TORCH spent the winter at New Orleans, where he managed to more than pay his way. If INDIANAPOLIS should falter, we take him to be the winner. FLYING SPARK turned in a most creditable performance in her last Jefferson race, and if she has retained that form will prove dangerous company. SELECTIVE appears to be the best of the others. T. S. JORDAN— ARC ADY—MULDOON. T. S. JORDAN picks up four pounds for winning last Saturday, and will carry top weight today in the Lafayette Hotel Handicap, to be run as the fourth. His excellent showing in that race forces us to again place him on top in figuring the probable winner. The nearest thing in the race to him is ARCADT, and as he was beaten by JORDAN a length and a half in their last meeting, dont think the four pounds extra for the latter will be apt to result in a reversal. MULDOON is making his first start here after a busy season at New Orleans. He is strictly a sprinter and McPherson has him on edge for todays race. ROBERT MAXWELL lost a tough race Monday and a repeat of that effort would find him close up. BEAU BUTLER— CHITTAGONG— RO THERM El.. The renewal of the Camden Handicap with its ,000 added, is the carded feature, and brings out a field worthy of the race. T. Koerner purchased BEAU BUTLER recently from E. R. Bradley, and he is going to try and get some of his purchase price back immediately. The son of Black Toney appears to have a most excellent chance of winning the stake as he is in good form at the present and is not too highly weighted. CHITTAGONG turned in a fair race last Saturday and taking a line through that performance will be a factor in todays race. ROTHERMEL stands a good chance of get-ting a portion of the purse were she to run to her last years form. OVERALL is reported to be in splendid condition right now .tnd may prove dangerous. TORCHILLA— FLORIDA GOLD— ROYAL JULIAN. TORCHILLA met his Waterloo in Rolled Stocking when they met last Saturday. The fact that he was beaten does not detract from his ability and we expect him to atone for that defeat today when he meets up with eleven oher juveniles in the sixth race. He is by far the class of the race and should be home the easiest winner of the dav. FLORIDA GOLD met with a misfortune in his first start under colors when he was caught in the webbing when the barrier was released. He is a colt of extreme speed and should be the one to race to the place. ROYAL JULIAN is said to have improved immensely since arriving here and can be counted on to give the others a battle. PICCADILLY failed miserably in his only start but is capable of doing much better if his trials count for anything. THE LEOPARD— BEAR GRASS — NOKO. THE LEOPARD looks to be the most probable winner of the final race of the day. He was most consistent while racing over the Jefferson Park course and should go as well here. He has shown up well in his preps and we think well of his chances of scoring here. BEAR GRASS and NOKO figure next closest to THE LEOPARD with the former holding a slight advantage. NOKO has not had much racing over a distance and for that reason we are placing him hebind BEAR GRASS. HALU seems to thrive on racing, and Durnell has him in good condition at the present. He may be able to finish in the money.
