SERIES OF CLAIMING RACES Make Up Thursdays Program at Beulah Park — Two Winners for H. D. Cox. COLUMBUS, Ohio. May 6.— The program at Iettlah Park this afternoon consisted of claiming races only with nn special feature carded. However, the seven races that were run off provided sport of the best variety and the keenest kind of contention. II. D. Cox saddled two winners in succession when Porter Klla and Inionville accounted for the fourth and fifth races re. spectively. Bath winners were well and capably ridden by jockey W. MeCabe. In the fourth Porter Klla raced in close quarter.-, all the way and forced Mitzi McOee. the early leader along at a rapid pace, then coming to the stretch gained the lead by a slight margin and showing rare gameness in the stretch drive, which ensued, outstayed her opponents to draw clear at the end. John Hoshor bested the others for second place while Havana Klectric overhauled the tiring Mitzi MoGee in the last few strides. In the fifth MeCabe had Inionville off quickly from an outside position and outrunning his opponents to the first turn the latter gained the inside rail and on straightening out in the back stretch drew out handily into a comfortable lead, which under a rousing ride was retained to the finish, heeky Sue suffered slight interference but easily disposed of the others when clear in the final eighth. Nereid hopelessly out of it in the early running closed up with a lmrst of speed in the run home and got up to nose out Merry it; the last stride for third place. . P». Bhafere P.lack Sand "was returned winner of the third race after showing the way throughout. The opening race for maidens three- and four-year-olds at five and a half furlongs, resulted in a victory for Nevertheless, the latter outstaving his opponents in the stretch to draw clear of the others near the end. l.eauty Van. the early leader, saved the place with Herbert coming from the rear in the last few yards to be third. Peter Prush scored an easy victory over Shuffle and Incle Velo in the second race after drawing away into an easy lead in the first half mile. The winner was not extended and had plenty in reserve at the finish. Jockey P. Pribble was a late arrival from Huntington. W. Va., and is accepting mounts here.
