May 6.— For a feature at Jamaica, the offering was the Olympic Maiming Stakes for three-year-olds and upward. It rrsulted in an excellent contest over tne three-quarter route and fell to II. I* Gerrys Voltaic, ridden by Karl Sande. The race was worth ,975 to the winner and was a good performance. Carrying 115 pounds the son of Volta ran the distance in 1 :11%. It was a good day for the sport while a good program was offered and attracted another big crowd. The weather was still unusually cold for this season of the year but it a decided improvement over some of the jireeeeding days. From a good start Voltaic raced into the lead and Sande kept him there all through the race. Gnome Girl was the one to chase after the Jerry sprinter but she raced wide in the stretch and Martha Martin, top weight of the field, after racing second to the atretch made a determined bid swinging for home but the weght told right at the end and as she tired slightly Sarapiou, coming with a rush, beat her for second place. The mile and seventhly yards third race brought out an ordinary band of platers hut resulted in a good finish when Mrs. A. Swenkes Clique was winner from It B. Wat-liins Rowlands Request with the Oreentree Stables Hell Cat finishing third. Star Falcon and Rowlands Request were the ones to set the pace but Clique was not far hack and when it came to the pinch in the stretcli Clique proved to have more left than the others. IlIAl.ltAM I XFOKTIXATE. In this race William Wallaces Diagram had a hit of had luck when he was inter-ferred with right after the start and knocked out of contention. He made up some ground but could not overcome his misfortune at the harrier. A cheap band made up the field for the Mile and seventy yards fifth race. Xora Hayes proved best when she led home Valor by a short margin with Curlong saving third place. It was Valor which showed the way until well into the stretch, but there the filly caught him and won going away. 1 Another good juvenile was uncovered in the last race when the Greentree Stables Adios was an easy winner over Uncle Hood and Iatuxant. This youngster is a son of Whisk Broom II. and Goodbye. He has a Wonderful burst of speed, as was evidenced when he raced the five-eighths in :58%. Tommy M Taggart brought the first win-TH-r home when by a particularly good ride In- landed Frank Rambaras Michael B. ahead of .lames Rutlers Bombardier. The Lilane Stables Vetera with Sande up was rather a distant third l eforo Kinan and the others Wire well strung out. Alert at the post McTaggart had Michael Ti. off fast and he quickly assumed a good lead. Bombardier had an outside position but he soon joined Use son of Donnacona and the pair of them thereafter dominated all the running. Velero was in third place and he was readily holding the others safe. All through the stretch it was a stiff battle between .Michael B. and Bombardier and it was only at tin- end that the victory for the former was assured. BABC4M VS OIOKS TO FORE. It was a good band of three-year-olds that came together in the second race at three-quarters and it brought a victory to Euclid from the Rancocas Stable, it was the first utart of the year for the son of The Finn arid Mrs. Sewall and he proved his fitness When he forced all the pace and hung on gamely to beat home Vespasian from the San ford Stable with Harry 1ayne Whitneys Croyden a fast finishing third. The others, and they were smart ones, were well strung out. lOuclid left the post running, but he was almost instantly joined by Vespasian, and for most of the way they raced close together. It was observed that Fator had Ku-did under a slight restraint and he was content to show the way without attempting to open up a lead. Croyden soon found his way into third place and he galloped along there without trouble, though he was racing greenly, and did not seem to understand what it was all about. In the final eighth Vespasian made a brave effort to catch Kurlid. but it was of no avail and Fator iiad the Raacocas colt home win-Tier with something to spare. Vespasian was cU»hik his l»est and when Orovdeil settled down to real running in the stretch. In- was going In better style than either of the two that beat him Joe DoOMshejr came in from Freehold X. ,T . for a day of raotssr.
