Dick Welles* Selections At Pimlico p g Ho « We i tc to B fc tl J b « § n J f. tl to „ c f| c l f g ■ « • , f CHUCKLE— ROI CRAIG— LOCH AYR. r In the Mt. Washington Steeplechase, which I is to he the opening number, the A. C. y Bostwiek jumper, CHOCKLd looks much the f best. He has raced with many of the good g ones and was always able to give a good account of himself. His only start this j year found him finishing third to Herriard and Perkiomen. Assuming that he needed t that race for a tightener, he should not r have much trouble in scoring hero. ROI j CRAIG finished behind CHUCKLE in his , first race of the year, and he would be the one to place, should he give forth the same effort today. LOCH AYR ran a good . race on the first day of the United Hunts j meeting when he finished second to Blue and Red. We are expecting him to be the one to account for the show honors. COLDEX BOX— HOUSTON— MAID OF ORLEANS. GOLDKN BOX turned in a fine perform- l ance in her first time to the races when i she finished second to Broken Vows. The winner was disqualified after the running and the purse awarded to QOLaDEN BOX. She only needs to race as well today to run her score to two in a row. HOUSTON proved a keen disappointment in his last start, when he was installed a hot favorite. was given this consideration on his pre- . ceding race, which he won like a good one. are expecting him to make amends for that poor showing and would bo very much surprised if he didnt prove to be the one chase the winner home. MAID OF ORLEANS is a stable companion of GOLDEN BOX, and taking a line through her Miami | form, should be the one to finish in the three hole. Salmon has another starter in the race in HUNTER BOY. He is a reported good one and may be the one to lead the way. FRE I DUBX ER— SEXA T K— TYPE CUTTEK. Of the maidens that will race in the third number, FRED DUBNER appears to be the | I best of a bad lot, basing on his last race. He j was pitted against some fairly good ones in j Donates ;lnd Martingale then. The same ef- I i fort in this race would find him an easy winner. He has been close up in most of his ! ! races this year and should now be about ! ! ready for a win. SENATE ran a couple of i fair races at Bowie and, on the strength of . those showings, looks to be the one most apt place. TYPECUTTER hasnt shown anything ■ since racing over the Maryland 1 courses, but a return to his New Orleans I form when he finished in the money on a I few occasions, would give him an excellent I chance for the show money. As is true with every race of this kind, most anything oun i happen, but the three mentioned above loom i far above the others. TRITON— POLAXTE— COXTEM PL ATE. It was generally thought that the Nevada Stock Farm Stable had a colt of the first t class in POLAXTE. He won his three I races at Tijuana with such ease that he was ■i acclaimed the champion of that course. His s first start on an eastern course, which was s in the Aberdeen Stakes at Havre de Grace, , r I y f g j t r j , . j l i . | | I j j I i ! ! ! ! i . ■ 1 I I I i i t I ■i s s , rather disproved his claim for greatness. In that running he finished a badly beaten horse. It may be that he wasnt quite ready for the issue after his long trek across the state. At any rate, he will meet up with some fast company today in the Pimlico Home-bred Stakes, -which features the Friday card. We are picking TRITON to defeat the Tijuana champion, excusing his last race. The former has a victory to his credit over Red Rocket, one of the best juveniles seen this year. It should be a rare contest between the two baby racers, but we think that TRITON will prove triumphant. CONTEMPLATE rates next in order and should be the one to land the show money. ST. JOHN— BALBOA— FAENZA. ST. JOHN seemed to come into his own since his return from Miami. His first race was nothing much, but the next two saw him annexing a win and a second. We like his chances in the Monumental Handicap, to be run as the fifth event. His stiffest opposition should come from BALBOA and I FAENZA. In his last out he raced neck and [ neck with Canister and only gave up in the I last few yards. The same brand of racing j today should find him home the winner. BALBOA has been close up in his recent ; starts, but seemed to be just a little short ; of a winning race each time. He appears I to be the one most apt to take the place. : FAENZA is in good form at the present and should not meet with much difficulty in saving . the show. KNIGHT OF MERCI II.— DREAM DADDY — DONGES. KNIGHT OF MiRCI II. was a real racer t last year, but in his three starts so far this . season, hasnt shown so well. Since his last t out he turned in a fast trial and we are inclined to believe that he is now about t ready for brackets. DREAM DADDYS last t start would indicate that he is nearing winning . form and, taking a line through that 1 race, he is the one to be feared in this race. It was his best showing so far this year r and he may be expected to go on from that I performance. DONGES scored an easy win n in his last race over the mile and seventy v yards distance. He may not go so wen to-; ,. day over the shorter distance of three- ,_ quarters, but should be the one to race third. I S. LOUIS ENTRY— BUTTERCUP— ZEOD. The champion halterman S. LOUIS, seems - to have a strangle hold on the final race on the card. He has entered BILLY MANN and d HARRY CARROLL. Either one of these two f are well able to cop honors here. BILLY Y . MANN rates a little higher than his stable-i mate, and he is the one we expect will land d in front. He has been racing with fair jr success all spring and we think highly of his s chances here. Should he fail, HARRY CARROLL , is good enough to take up the running J. and bring home the bacon. BUTTER-i . CUF started off like a whirlwind at Rowie ie and it is possible she may have had her fill II of racing for a while. Basing on her Bowie J form though, she would be good enough to land the place. ZEOD also raced well over it the Bowie course and a return to that form m would find her close up at the finish.
