William Zie-gler Jr.s Kspino. ridden by W. Smith, accounted for the Arizona, which was the i stellar offering at Jamaica today. His victory came after a hard drive in which he led home Sanford. from the Rosedale Stable, and G. A. Cochrans Flat Iron. Harrovian, Wish ins Stone and Seventh Son completed the field. The race was at a mile and seventy yards and Espino was an odds-on | choice. He was worked out a mile and a quarter in preparation for his engagement in the Kentucky Derby and was timed the | mile in 1:39%, mile and an eighth ia 1:53 i ami the mile and a quarter in 11:1073. Considerable interest in the race was de- | traded when trainer J. Rowe decided to] withdraw Harry Payne Whitneys Color Ser- i geant, while Mosque, from the Rutler stable. was also withdrawn. The field left in good alignment and it was Flat Iron that showed i the way around the first turn, while Wishing i BtOM was in second place, with Kspino third. Seventh Son was a bad last. There-was no change in the running positions until the field straightened out on the back Stretch. Flat Iron continued to show the Way while Smith moved up with Kspino on the outside. Sanford in the meantime encountered repeated interference, but moved to the front with Kspino. but Flat Iron had something left and quickly regained the lead. Sanford, under urging, closed considerable ground, but Sande was forced to come to the outside of the field turning for home. Espino felt the sting of the whip at the eighth post and through the final sixteenth drew away to win by a safe margin from Banford, which had a wide margin over Flat Iron. The card, which was an off one. attracted a good sized crowd for a Friday. The Hack was fast. NO RNBBTB AISPK lOrSI.Y.
