EAST AFTER DERBY HONORS At Least Nine Representatives Coming From That Section — Latest Gossip of Big Race. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 7. — Indications are that at least nine eastern owned three-year-olds will be shipped here to start in the Kentucky Derby, which will be run on Saturday. May 15. Track superintendent Thomas Young has reserved stalls for the eastern representatives. The complete band of eastern eligibles is expected in the next five days. The more prominent and the likely ones that will invade this section and strive for the much coveted victory are: W. R. Coes Pompey, the Glen Riddle Farms Dress Parade and Crusader, H. P. Whitneys Color Sergeant and Blondin, J. E. Griffiths Canter, William Zieglers Kspino, T. W. OBriens Timmara and the Sagamore Stables Rock Man. The latter will come in the same car that conveys Canter, according to advices received today. The western contingent will be drawn from Bubbling Over, Bagenbaggage. Barcolo, Boot to Boot. Rhinock, Roycrofter, Champ De .Mars, Recollection, American Son and probably My Colonel. Of course, others may show up promisingly in the next few days, and their owners may decide on sending them to the post. It is doubtful, however, if more than fifteen of the outstanding three-year-olds in the country will comprise this years Derby field. This will assure a splendid contest and obviate any possible crowding usually unavoidable in big fields. With the near approach of the Derby running, interest in the probable result centers in Pompey, Bubbling Over, Canter and Bagenbaggage. The probable duel between Pompey and I Bubbling Over is an appetizing anticipation 1 for racing enthusiasts, and their meeting will determine the question of superiority j between the pair that has been a topic since last year. The Keeneland Studs Champ De Mars , performed the best of the Derby eligibles ; in their preliminaries over the Churchill I Downs track this morning. Accompanied by his stablemate, Princess Pan, he covered a 1 mile in 1:41, beating the filly handilv. The fractions were fast and as follows : Quarter, :24M ; half mile, :49%, three-quarters, 1 M%. His concluding quarter in :25Vh was regarded I as excellent. The track was somewhat deep , with dust Recollection was given a sharp canter of three-eighths in :39. My Colonel ran a quarter hard held in :25%.
