FILLY CUPIDS CURSE Shows Excellent and Winning Performance at Downs Leads Home Superfrank and Bol Bolton ton With Buck and Lave en enthe the Disappointments LOUISVILLE Ky May 13 E B Mc ¬ Leans threeyearold filly Cupids Curse by The Porter The Minx accounted for the main race on todays Churchill Downs pro ¬ gram and scored decisively from some good ones that started against her She was rid ¬ den by the diminutive Dubois and raced to her best style under an impost of eighty eight pounds Superfrank in a game closing rush managed to land in second place just beating Boltori BoltoriCupids Cupids Curse raced into the lead immedi ¬ ately after the start and enjoyed a three lengths lead over Buck and Superfrank dur ¬ ing the early part though under restraint She gave no indication of tiring approaching the stretch where Buck gave way and she continued well in advance until the finish Superfrank during the last sixteenth began tiring and just managed to last long enough to outstay Bolton Buck and Laveen which were held to be strong factors before the race showed disappointing performances performancesOCCASIONAL OCCASIONAL SHOWERS SHOWERSCloudy Cloudy weather and an occasional shower did not affect the attendance which was again of large proportions augmented by many visitors from different parts of the country who are here to witness the fifty second renewal of the Kentucky Derby The track was in excellent condition and con ¬ tributed toward the good sport presented presentedH H Teller Archibald again lost a race with a representative that apparently appeared much the best when Candy Rock was beaten by Golden Laura by a matter of inches in the second race Candy Rock was a sufferer from interference as well as a badly judged ride He came like a streak in the last six ¬ teenth from far back and just missed getting up Lucky Mistake an outsider and grouped with others in the field finished in third place placeThe The opening dash found the public away to an auspicious start when Taudlane favorite won handily from fourteen others that tried conclusions here Queen Navarre finished 5r second place and just managed to overhaul Frederick Raphael after coining from far back The field raced closely grouped during the first halfmile but thereafter Taudlane drew out to win with much in reserve reserveWHITNEY WHITNEY COLORS IN FRONT FRONTHarry Harry Payne Whitneys Eden was re turner winner of the twoyearold race bringing to the post six fillies Eden displayed a high order of speed and led the others for the entire distance Pool roused her during the stretch run though he was five lengths in the lead At the end he had a lead of three lengths with Pompano in second place with Gay Halite following followingWillis Willis Sharpe Kilmers colors which were carried to the memorable Kentucky Derby victory by Exterminator flashed past the finish in the third race when Sun Hathor scored handily from Eager with Phidias in third place The latter pair absorbed most betting attention The leading trio domi ¬ nated the race at all stages Phidias suf ¬ fered some in the first quarter when Eager and Sun Hathor came over a trifle and jockey Burke took back This left Eager and Sun Hathor to race almost as a team until the last sixteenth where Sun Hathor drew out slightly and won by a length lengthAileen Aileen P gave Dubois opportunity to land his second purse of the afternoon The Pen dergast filly outstayed Pani Roma with Ruth Gold following the pair Pani Roma and Ruth Gold were among those grouped in the field Mary Kinkead and Bulletin which had much attention in the race ceased to be factors after a half mile
