Dick Welles Selections SelectionsAt At Churchill Downs OUB BUDDY SUE BERRY ARCHIBALD ARCHIBALDAbout About as poor a band of maidens as could be found are entered in the opening race and picking the winner is no easy task The showing OUR BUDDY made in his last race forces us to give him the call here In that out he led Ada Blackjack and Taud lane well into the stretch only to tire and lose the race That effort should have put him on edge for todays test and if he would race as kindly think he could score here SUE BERRY ran like a plater in her only race at Lexington but since then has turned in some fine moves and on the strength of those workouts we are expecting her to take down the place money ARCHIBALD doesnt count for much on past performances but he too has been working in a most satisfactory manner and may be the one to save the small end of the purse purseBEAUTY BEAUTY STAR VERXOX TEE IIEE IIEEThe The Tijuana racer BEAUTY STAR from the Chula Vista Stable seems to be the log ¬ ical choice in the second race a four and a half furlongs dash for twoyearolds In her last race she carried 114 pounds and scored a handy victory over some other fast ones Today she gets in with 99 pounds and with that light weight up should fairly fly over the distance Much depends on whether or not she becomes thoroughly acclimated to the change VERNON was getting into top form when the Miami meeting came to a close and hasnt raced since then If he has retained that form will very likely prove the con ¬ tender here TEE IIEE failed miserably in her first Kentucky appearance but is able to do much better If she were to race back to her Jefferson Park form would be close up at the finish WIDGEON PAT CALHOUX A3fDRY A3fDRYThe The third race promises to be a tight fit between WIDGEON and PAT CALHOUN with the former holding a slight advantage Basing on time performances he is the faster of the two and needs but to run as well as in his last race to again be home the winner In that out he was away with the rise of the barrier and made every post a winning one PAT CALHOUN scored by many lengths in his last race and it may be that he could have run faster is urged Be that as it may we think WIDGEON will prove the best here ANDRY ran second to PAT in his last race and has but to run as kindly today to take down the show money ELIAS O would be close up if he were to race as he did last year yearTEAK TEAK PARCO DARK PHANTOM PHANTOMA A mighty interesting race should develop in the Valley Station Purse a six and a half furlongs sprint for threeyearold fillies PrtRCO and DARK PHANTOM The former is in excellent condition at the present as evidence of her last two winning races Gold blatt nominated her for the Derby but found she would not do Her speed is spent after 5oing a mile She is a sprinter of high arder though and should turn the trick again today PARCO figures to finish closest to PEAK basing on her last race It was her rirst appearance of the year and she made Elpsebec give her best to beat her a nose DARK PHANTOM will meet up with some Hast ones here and doubt if she can finish setter than third Her last out was a win but not near the company she meets today Another one with a good chance is BOBBY Frakes has this High Time filly in top forn right now and she will take considerabl beating beatingTHIRTEEN THIRTEEN SIXTY ETHEL DEAR KRICK KRICKIn In the renewal of the Debutante Stakes for juvenile fillies THIRTEEN SECTS looms as the most probable winner In her three starts to date she has won twice and finished third in the other She has beaten all of those that are entered here and should do the same today The only time she met defeat was at the hands of the speedy Gen ¬ eral Haldeman and the Miami sensation Accomplish in the Centennial Futurity at Lexington This is the first time this year that the baby racers have been asked to tra ¬ verse the fiveeighths course over the Ken ¬ tucky track In her races THIRTEEN SIXTY has shown an aptitude to go and she should not find the added distance too much for her ETHEL DEAR turned in such a good race her last out that we are compelled to believe that she will be the one to place while KRICK may ba good enough to save the show SIXTEEN SIXTY raced well at New Orleans and may be able to horn in at the finish finishLEE LEE O COTNER KING GORKTII SOUTH WIND WINDThe The best play on the card is seen in the sixth number an allowance affair over the mile distance LEE O COTNER is the horse in question His first race of the year found him home an easy winner over Breakfast Bell and Roycrofter and it is not so much the fact that he won as the manner in which he achieved his victory that leads us to believe that he is going to prove a most useful racing tool this season The most contention that LEE will receive should come from KING GORIN II He won his last out but will have to step much faster today if he is going to down LEE It was his first race of the year also and he ap ¬ pears to be in excellent form right now SOUTH WIND was a consistent racer at Miami last winter and then in her first appearance at this course ran Teak a neck to finish second With the light package she is carrying today should be the one to land in the three hole MAX BRICK rates well up on his showing in his last two races which were easy wins for him himCLOISTER CLOISTER DAY TRAP BROOMSTER BROOMSTERThe The final race on the card should find CLOISTER home the winner In his last race here he showed a decided improvement and on that showing looks much the best that meet here DAY TRAP finished close up to CLOISTER in the same race although out of the money and a repeat of that effort should find him taking down the place por ¬ tion of the purse It was his first Ken ¬ tucky appearance this year and some excuses can be found for him in the fact that he had not been to the races in a long time The L T Cooper racer BROOMSTER looks like a sure proposition to get the show end of the purse He lost a tough one his last out and needs but to race as well to land in the money here Should an out ¬ sider score look to SCOOP He ran a good ace his last out but it was a little above his average race One Best Bet LEE 0 COTNER in Sixth Race
