BOOT TO BOOT FIRST Another Bradley Representative in Limelight at Downs Runs Fast Mile to Take Pendennis PendennisClub Club Handicap Recollection Recollectionin in Spectacular Success LOUISVILLE Ky May 25 E R Brad leys Boot to Boot junior member of the Idle Hour Farm Stables big three com ¬ prising additionally Bubbling Over and Bagenbaggage received a mile preliminary workout in the Pendennis Club Handicap and added la50 to E R Bradleys goodly stable earnings here when he showed the way to five other good ones that tried con ¬ clusions with him The race served as the outstanding feature of Churchill Downs of ¬ fering for the afternoon and it found Boot to Boot one of the shortest priced favorites of the meeting meetingHe He began with his customary alert style and took the lead at once but Johnson found difficulty in racing off into a long lead as he did in most of his previous efforts The colt moved sluggishly and it allowed Cupids Curse and Rothermel to stay fairly close to the early pace Cupids Course was done after threequarters but Kothermel continued to press Boot to Boot and Johnson resorted to the whip It roused Boot to Boot and he raced more steadily during the last eighth and easily held Rothermel safe Fol ¬ lowing the leaders came Recollection and Parole II The former by virtue of saving much ground landed in third place The mile in 1 was the second fastest of the meeting only bettered by Lee O Cotner CotnerINTERESTING INTERESTING JIACING JIACINGAnother Another large attendance was on hand this afternoon and they witnessed spirited racing in which the contenders were forced to their best to land their respective purses Small fields again made up the different races and it contributed to the excellent brand of sport provided providedThe The threequarters that preceded the fea ¬ ture and served as the secondary attraction brought about a spectacular contest Reputa ¬ tion just managing to outstay Mount Beacon with Pigeon Wing L landing in third place It was a lucky victory for Reputation though he performed in his best style It was his first winning race of the year and the first score he has registered for his present owners Harned Bros With equal racing luck Mount Beacon would have won T Murray who rode him carried four pounds more than originally carded He was away slowly and raced wide while Reputation from a fast beginning raced into command and led by a safe margin until challenged by Mount Beacon in the stretch The pair fought it out during the last eighth with Reputation holding on well to win by a head Mount Beacon after his slow beginning displayed high speed but had to race wide and he tired slightly right at the end from his effort to close a big gap There was some crowding at the three eighths post in which Take a Chance and Tangara both suffered Pigeon Wing IT saved much ground and finished in advance of Happy Top TopOIENER OIENER TO LUCKY DRIFT DRIFTLucky Lucky Drift was winner in the opening race She began quickly and led the others for the entire distance Anona after being far back finished in second place but had to be urged hard in the stretch to overhaul La Sabina The latter was also away for wardly and raced prominently until the last sixteenth where she began tiring Midnight Rose had her chances destroyed when she was away off stride and was given a badly judged ride Lady Stone was another dis oppointment in the race raceThe The Audley Farm Stable scored its first victory of the meeting when its Wood Nymph graduated from the maiden ranks and won from Sophronia Fair and ten other youngsters Wood Nymph led for the entire distance but had to be hustled hard to lieep in advance of Sophronia Fair The latter began slowly and showed a big order of speed to race around the others and get close to the leader In the stretch she made a strong effort to wrest the lead but Wood Nymph held her safe Tim Gleason raced well and finished with a rush to land in third place placeThe The third race brought one of the worst disappointments of the meeting when Xtra having strong public support made a dismal showing and finished far back of the three leaders Her showing was in striking con ¬ trast to her preceding start when she won after a hard drive She lacked much speed and was far back during the entire running though the race was one of the slowest of the meeting over a fast track Broad Axe was the winner from Longport with Seths Premium in third place The winner took the lead a quarter out and held sway thereafter hongport had to be urged hard to outstay Seths Premium for second place
