BOUQUET TO PETER PETER Outgames Fresco and Ennui in Belmont Parks Chief Offering American Flap Suffers l efeat on First FirstAppearance Appearance of Year Silver Fox FoxDisplays Displays Sparkling Speed I NEW YORK N Y May 25 For a Tties day feature the Belmont Park offering was the Bouquet Claiming Stakes for the two yearolds over four and a half furlongs of the Widener Course It was worth 54050 to the winner and resulted in a stirring finish when Peter Peter from the Greentree Stable just nosed put Harry Payne Whit ¬ neys Fresco with Walter J Salmons Ennui just a length farther away awayThere There was a moderation in the weather that was grateful after the cold blasts of Monday but overcoats were still the order of the day and there was a high wind blowing up the back stretch that was a bar against fast time while it also slowed up the Widener Course materially materiallyOnly Only six went to the post for the Bouquet but it was really only a threehorse race when Scat a stablemate to Fresco G A Cochrans Dolan and the Rancocas Stables Tipstaff cut so little figure in the running runningPeter Peter Peter and Scat showed prominently right after the start and for an instant Tip ¬ staff was the leader but lie soon dropped back while as for Dolan he was in trouble from the start and was never in a contending position positionWhen When Scat gave way Fresco was ready to take his place and he was showing the way Peter Peter was going strongly along the inside rail and Ennui was closing with excellent courage Passing the clubhouse Fresco seemed to be holding Peter Peter perfectly safe and Chalmers was depending on a hand ride while Ellis was hard at work on Peter Peter They swept by the finish line closely locked and Peter Peter was up in the last stride to be winner winnerWhat What was of greater racing importance than the Bouquet was the handicap at three quarters over the main course This marked the first appearance of Samuel D Riddles champion American Flag and that made it important but American Flag finished last of the eight that raced and it would have been better if he had not been sent to the post It was not fair to the colt to set him such a task for his first start of the year He had to shoulder 130 pounds and it is well he was ridden by a jockey such as Johnson who when he found the task a hopeless one eased him up rather than punish him himThe The race fell to Silver Fox from the Ran ¬ cocas Stable and be ran a truly fast three quarters when he finished out the distance in 111 He was four lengths before H P Whitneys Noah and two lengths farther back came R T Wilsons Senalado SenaladoSilver Silver Fox beat the barrier slightly but American Flag had no excuses Then Noah raced up to Silver Fox and Fator permitted him to go on by and open up a good lead He waited back of the son of Peter Pan to the stretch turn where he charged on him went on by and the race was over overIt It will not do to condemn American Flag on this one race for it was early in the running that he dropped back out of the contention and as has been told he was not needlessly punished by Johnson JohnsonThere There was something of a surprise came Continued on sixteenth page BOUQUET TO PETER PETER Continued from first page out of the running of the opening race at a mile under claiming conditions for three yearolds when P If Faultoners Little Dave was winner from Um Ilogans Coolagh Boy with the Sagamore Stables Brush Bv saving third thirdBrush Brush By was rushed out into a long early lead and Voshell was also well up before the others Then Aroshell quit before the stretch was reached and Brush By looked a sure winner but in the run home he tired badly when Little Dave and Goolagh Boy closed with a great rush They both outgamed him Swinging into the stretch Coolagh Boy lost much ground by going wide and the manner in which he finished under pinish inent suggested that it was that that cost him the race raceNine Nine cheap ones went to the post in the third race and it resulted in a good finish when N Loscalzos Nero was winner by a narrow margin from F J Kearns Espanol the latter just nosing out M J Oremens Zeod for second place placeCamilla Camilla Theodore and Nero were the ones to cut out all the running and when the stretch was reached Nero had the other two beaten Espanol had worked his way up on the outside and he closed resolutely in the stretch run but at the same time Xero carhr with excellent courage and as a matter oi fact he would have beaten Kspanol for second place in a few more strides while the Kcarns plater hung badly and really did not seriouslyIt threaten Xero seriously It was a truly nice band of twoyearold fillies that came together in the four and a half furlongs of the second race and it re ¬ sulted in an easy victory for Harry Payne Whitneys tantella daughter of Chicle and j Iantallette At the end she was well under restraint seven lengths before the Swinga loiig Stables Xo Regrets which in turn beat C Leroy Kings Miami sensation Accomplish by half a length These three fillies domin ¬ ated the running throughout but Pantella was easily best and once she had gone into a good lead the result was at no time in doubt doubtWhen When Croyden won the final race of the card a double was charged up for both the Marry Payne Whitney silks and McAtee This was a maiden race for threeyearolds but a nice band went to the post and Croy d n went into an early lead and never left the result in doubt Judicial from the Ixg Cabin Stud Stable wis second and third fell to Aletzies
