the early pace under steadying restraint Galetian and Apostle were the ones to cut out the running but Apostle was done after going half a mile Sandy Man finished courageously Through the final eighTh Chance Play responded to urging and moved to the leaders with a rush that in no time carried him to the front McTaggart let him race fight along and at no stage was he seriously menaced by Sandy Man The latter had a safe advantage of the tiring Galetian Canter showed a dis ¬ appointing performance while Light View did not fancy the going There was a de ¬ cided falling off in the attendance The rain of the previous night changed the going and as a result there was wholesale scratch ¬ ing ingThe The Grcentree Stables Jolly Roger dis ¬ played a good race to account for the Wood lark Purse at two miles by a safe margin from W A Reads Gasper while Lorenzo from the J E Widener stable was third Isis and Another Star the other two starters fell at the fourth and twelfth jumps Ma honey who rode Isis appeared to have suffered a severe fall and was removed in an unconscious condition from the track trackWhen When the start came Isis displayed the most early speed and drew away into a safe lead while Jolly Roger and Lorenzo were racing in closest pursuit Gasper dropped far out of it the first turn of the field At the fourth jump Isis fell and Jolly Roger drew away into the lead He stood off in the Raceland Purse at one mile C R Fleischmanns Bou Chaib raced to second place while J S Cosdens Cloudland was third Grandpre from the W A Read sta ¬ ble was fourth Bou Chaib and Grandpre furnished the early contention but the Eng ¬ lish horse was done after going threequar ¬ ters L Fator was content to rate in behind the pace until the far turn was reached He assumed the lead when Hernstadfs Red Pate was third The winner was ridden by Harry Richards and outlasted Ennui at the end by a matter of inches
