McDowells Court Lady, a winner in her previous start over some good sprinters. Kdward Cray finished second and J ancing Kool was in advance of the others. Court Lady raced in her best style and was benefited by a good ride. Howard kept her close to the leaders in the early stapes and, when Kdward Cray began tiring, she readily took command and held sway to the end, though it was necessary to urge her some in the last sixteenth. Dancing Fool begin slowly and was far out of it for more than half the journey but came strong in the stretch. Bolivar Bond, also a tardy beginner, closed a big gap during the last quarter. W1NNF.KS WELL SIPPOKTF.I. Several exciting finishes developed during the afternoon and kept the crowd considerably enthused. All the winners came in for extensive support, the play on the whole being of the diversified variety on all the starters. The chief incident of the afternoons racing was furnished l y the running of the .sixth race, when Phyllis Centry, while leading, bolted to the outer fence approaching the stretch turn. This enabled False Face to move into the lead and caused Phyllis .entry to be almost last when they straightened out in the stretch. The public began auspiciously when they con.entrated on High Joy as the likely winner in the inaugural rate. He made good with greatest ease, winning with much in reserve after having led for the entire distance. Cdd Beth, being considerably improved, finished in second place and Turner headed the others. The Chula Vista Stables Sweep Over, a first time starter here, was given much attention in the second race which brought to the post six juveniles to race five-eighths. Sweep Over flattered considerably by going to a good lead and showing the way for half a mile, but thereafter she tired badly and was passed in turn by Shasta Bove and Royal Rally, the former winning well in hand. STY ON IIOMF. FIRST. Stay On proved best of the starters in the third race and won from Iester Doctor, with Al Stealer, the favorite, following. Lester Doctor and Stay On were the leaders from the start. Stay On going into command an eighth from the finish and holding the purse safe in the last sixteenth. .1. I?. Partridges Ceo.
