Juno 1".. A surprise rami- with t ho running Ol the Wentworth Plate, which held the stellar position on the program here today and whim was decided over a track that benefited sturdy mud performers. Five facod the starter in this race and the start found the field away in pood alignment and there was a rush for the first turn, where there was a slight jam. in which South Wind and Galloping Souvenir came together. This mishap caused South Wind to fall back, while Nine Sixty assumed the load with Aucilla following at his heels and seominglv under a strong pull. Reaching the half-mile post Nine Sixty was called on to match the onrush of the winner, hut was lacking in stamina as Aucilla wont to the front still in hand and opened up a four lengths load. When released from restraint lie passed the winning mark lengths in front of South Wind. Nino Sixty tired as rapidly as she began and gave way to Gauntley just as the end was reached. IXKKYSh IN PATRON ACE. There was a decided increase in the patronage hero today with wagering much on the improving side. Favorites shared fairly well in the days proceedings, with outsiders having their many followers. Kda O. accounted for the Hopeful Furse of the first division when she was up in time to turn defeat into victory over Ankle Hoot and five others that strived for honors in the days opening dash. Ankle Hoot, like in his previous starts, went into command with the rise of the barrier, with Gabaldon showing the way to the others. Kda C. was racing strongly and. when called on for the final drive, responded gamely and. withstanding a hard drive in determined fashion, wore Ankle Hoot down to get a nose verdict. Ankle Hoot had no trouble in saving second place from the fast finishing Iaulotta. Camouflage, piloted by W. Scott, carried off the high lion ;rs in the second race, at five and one-half furlongs. This race was sot aside for maiden jockeys and Scott rode his mount in a clever manner, permitted the fast son of Star Shoot to go into the lead shortly after the start and once in command rated his in mnt along a length in front of his rivals for the remainder of the way. Lieutenant Farrell moved into second place after making a determined effort to overtake the winner at the eighth post, but his effort was unavailing. Shining Light made up a lot of ground to gather in the small share of the purse. There were eleven starters in this race, making the biggest field for the day. BEAUTIFUL Fl.OWFIt QUITS. Balto upset calculations when he accounted for the second half of the Hopeful Furse. which was down for decision as the fourth race of the day. Heginning fast from his inside post position Sdiaefer rushed him along from the start, ra.-ed along with F.eau-tiful Flower for the first half mile, disposed of the latter mid was of the home stretch and drew away into an OSS load. Beautiful Flower, after making the pace, quit when the real struggle begOB. but had enough left to withstand Swizzles bid. Q. W. Foremans recent acquisition. For-novo. showed his heels to those that opposed him in the third race, at a mile and one-sixtoeath. scoring with plenty to spare over Roxana and Scissors, with the others well strung out. Scissors opened up a commanding lead on his field when the back stretch was reached, being four lengths clear of Slate Hounding the turn out of the back stretch Stott gave the winner his head and he moved to Scissors with high speed, wore the latter down after a brief challenge and came away to win by five lengths.
