P. J. CARR HANDICAP « Sanola Captures Race Named for Popular County Official. ♦ Crowd of Goodly Proportions Witnesses Excellent Racing Replete With Exciting Finishes. AURORA, III., June 15 The Sanola Stock Karma five-year-old Sanola accounted for the P. J. Carr Handicap, fifth and feature attraction on the program at Imposition Park this afternoon. The race carried an endowment of ,200 and the winner was also presented with a beautiful floral wreath donated hy P. J. Carr, Cook County treasurer, for whom the race was named. Sanola. racing in close quarters all the way. found an opening next to the inner rail on reaching the stretch and under a hard drive managed to reach Pillager, the leader, and outstayed him in the last few yards. The latter had set a fact pace to the stretch, and although holding on well could not withstand the winners challenge. Monday Morning gained the third place when Jack Alexander and Thundering tired in the final drive, after taking prominent part in the early running. Tom P., slow to begin, could do no better than finish fourth after closing a good gap. TRACK BBIBfl Ml UAPIDLY. An excellent crowd was on hand to witness the sport which again was of the highest standard, some of the finishes being of the spectacular variety and the decision in most cases being in doubt until the closing strides. With a return to favorable weather todays races were run over a rapidly drying out track. A. M. Jacobus Ticker, showing a sudden return to form, registered a decisive victory in the sixth and after gaining the lead in the first quarter continued to increase his advantage and came away in the stretch to win easing up. Punning Fox raced wide all the way but showed a good performance to gain second place with Bonfire a steadily finishing third. In the opening race for platers, at five and one-half furlongs, named the John P. Bowles Purse, the Detroit Stables Smooth Tee scored a handy victory over Vasquez and Tender Seth. The winner was content to follow the early pace closely to the stretch, then easily passing Vasquez, drew clear near the end. The latter had moved up steadily approaching the last turn and forged into the lead an eighth out, but was unable to withstand the winners challenge although holding Tender Seth safe for second place. Tender Seths effort was creditable, and this son of Seth finished going very well, though racing wide through the stretch after meeting much interference during the early running. DEADFALL ALL THF. WW. Another purse fell to the stable of I laugh -ton and Morafl when, in the following race. Deadfall showed much speed and. under a hustling ride, assumed an early command and held sway for the entire distance of three-quarters. Poison, after a very poor beginning, quickly raced up into a contending position in the first half mile and gained second a sixteenth out but. careteSsUy ridden in the last few yards, just managed to outstay Ceo. I ever for second place. The latter finished very fast on the inside and just missed getting up for second place. Babe Carrett delayed the start in this race considerably with her had post behavior and. sulking badly during the race, was never prominent. C. «K. Durnells The Hovel proved a surprise in accounting for the third race, the William Ianiel Purse, for juveniles at five-eighths. The letting choice. Shafers Cunsight. racing in his best form and repeating his performance of Saturday last, took the measure of bis opponents in the fourth race after leading from the start and was never seriously threatened. Vaeaaa raced closest up all the way and made a bold bid at the last turn, but could not improve on second place. Mas-querado captured third by a wide margin.
