Dick Welles* Selections At Aurora MEDDLING SETH— P. T. BARNUM— ROUND ROBIN. There are possibilities for better than a heavy track for todays races if no more rain should fall. The sunshine of Tuesday did wonders in dryintr out the track to a considerable extent. That, coupled with the new drainage system, which was installed recently, left the track in much better condition than would have been the case under the same circumstances last year. The first race attracted the limit number of seventeen and is to be run over the five and a half furlonRS distance. The drying-out course should be all to the liking of MEDDLING tUBlH, and he is our choice to win. P. T. BARNtM is more of a fast track performer, but he may be good enough in the going to get the place, if he races back to his recent form. ROUND ROBIN is to be feared should he put forth the same efforts as he did last time out. He didnt beat much then, but it was a good performance for him. CALH.TLA— DOUBLE T.— SCOTLAND FOREVER. , CALIGULA, which races for Haughtqn and Moran, will make her first appearance to i racegoers in these parts when she is to be seen in action in the second number, a three-quarters dash. She is at home on any | kind of a track, and all she needs to win I is to race as she did at Akron earlier in | the year. DOUJMLJC T. showed well rn the I mud in his last out to get the place behind I Gentry. If he runs as kindly today, he I should fare as well again. SCOTLAND I FOREVER is in good form at the present j and will be hard to overlook, if his only race here was his true form. The consistent ROCKKT would have to be given the call were the track to be fast. He has won his three starts here but seems doomed to defeat with the going which will prevail today. josie hartman— Mcdonough— edna mitchell. The third race will see the juveniles In action over the five-eighths distance. The I H. C McConnell filly, JOSIE HARTMAN, should be good enough to win this race, i She has been close up in all her races here, i winning her first out. If she runs as she j did in that appearance, dont think there! is anything in the race that is apt to catch j her. MeDONOUOH dopes to get the place. | basing on his race before last, when he I got home the winner against some ordinarv ] ones. EDNA MITCHELL is anything but | consistent, but she should be able to save j the show money if any good at all. THE I WIRE was whispered about as a good thing | in his last race. Maybe he will do better ! today. MAX BRICK-HAPPY BIRTHDAY— DUTCH GIRL. The fourth event will engage the better class of performers, and it should prove a pood spot for MAX BRICK. This fellow could beat this bunch on three legs if he would only race as he is capable. He won in his first appearance here, then pot a place and a show and, in his last out, ran far below his true form to finish among the "also rans." The going should not prove too much for him today, and we think he will peeve an easy winner if he only tries. HAPPY BIRTHDAY rates to be the runner-up, taking a line through his last race. In that start he ran an even race all the way to get the show portion of the purse and needs but to show little improvement over that effort to get the place here. DUTCH GIRL will be making her first start here since the Jefferson Park meeting last winter. She was the winner of her last out there and may be the one to get the small end of the purse today, should she run as well. MISS IDA BROWN— GENTRY-BREAKERS AHEAD. MISS IDA BROWN gets in with OS pounds in the fifth race and. at the weights, looks like the best play. True, she was beaten by GENTRY in her last start, but the latter ricks up five pounds today, while she carries nine less. Both are well suited to the distance, and we think MISS IDA will reverse the decision against GENTRY today. She raced as if she would profit by a longer distance and. ;~s todays race is over the mile and twenty yards route, everything is to her advantage. BREAKERS AHEAD won one race in the mud here, then lost two in a row. It may be that the going will be to his liking today ami, if so, he should not have much trouble in garnering the show money. The others dont amount to much, with the possible exception of ROB ROY. GRASS TREE— LOUIS A.— POLLY AT WELL. The l est play on the card is gleaned in the sixth, a mile and an eighth run. This trick is GRASS TREE. He has gone this distance before and usually is well up at j the finish. In his last start, he ran a good third to Gunsight and Van Patrick. He has much lesser company to race against today and, for that reason, think he wont have much difficulty in downing this bunch. IjOUIS A. has l een improving with every start and, if the going is not too holding, should be the one to chase GRASS TREE home. POLLY ATWELL could not negotiate the mud in her last race after winning two races in a row before that. A race back to her best form would see her closer up at the finish today. MART BUNCH— TRY AGAIN— ARRAGOSA. Play MART BUNCH for a repeater, is our advice to you in the final race on the program. This event is over the mile and an eighth route, a distance he has raced over many times before. In his last out, he put up a good effort to win. He was behind the leaders in the stretch but, when called on, came with a rush and at the end was home safe by half a length. TRY AGAIN promises to give MART the most trouble, should he race as he did in his last two appearances. His last try was particularly good when he just missed getting the decision by a head. ARRAGOSA has been landing in the money with regularity of late, and today should be no different. The show looks like a cinch for him. j One Best Bet — GRASS TREE, in the Sixth Race I
