AQUEDUCT TURF NOTES NEW YORK, N. Y., June 2:5. There was a near panic in the paddock before the running of the fourth race when a Ix ng Island train outside the fence ha.I 1 short circuit that sent a flash of flame high in the air. A cry of fire was raised ;ind there was a wild scramble of men and horses and jockeys. No harm was done except that many splashed through the mud to the infield seeking places of safety. Within a short time the cause of the alarm was discovered and it occasioned no end of merriment. Ceorge Strate has received word that Car-laris is doing exceedingly well now and that the present intention is to start him in the Raceland Derby. It has also been intimated that the Kentucky Derby winner Bubblirg Over may start in the same race. If he does, it will be the first meeting of thes. two great colts. Jockey C. Turner has -â– igned over second call on his services to A. B. Hancock for the Saratoga meeting. Trainer 1*. Feustel announced today that Chance Plays injury was not of a serious nature and would not interfere with the training of the colt. Jockey J. Maiben. who suffered a broken toe when crowded against the fence on Chance Play in the Shevlin Stakes, accepted mounts today. Maiben said that the injured member does not interfere with his riding. At private terms the Belair Stud sold to J. J. Moran the filly Clorianes. She will more than likely be shipped to Canaela. A notice posted this morning warned horsemen that the closing day for the fall stakes to be run at Belmont Park is July 12. G. W. Primrose, presiding steward for the Coney Island meeting came in from his trip to Fair-mount and Latonia. He is busying himself in the interest of the Coney Island meeting which is to open July 22. Jockey B. Breuning has signed to ride for F. M. Kelly and will leave for Windsor tomorrow. Kelly will take up a two-year-old. Fair Warning, for W. J. Salmon and will turn it over to J. Price at that point. Two horses changed hands following the running of the first race. F. W. Barlow took Sapin from A. C. Bostwick for ,000 and J. D. Odom took Master William for a like amount. Holly Hughes will ship the Sanford Stock Farm horses to Saratoga on June 36, not July 10 as previously published. The stewards established a precedent on the New York tracks today when they ordered clerk of scales Burlen to place Quatrain on the outside in his starts without drawing him for post positions. Results have been :.o satisfactory with the change of the barrier position at the five-eighths starting post that a like change has been made for the four anel a half furlongs starts. Hollie Hughes has added several two-year-olds of the Sanford Stud Farm to auction of the Thoroughbred Sale Company, to be conducted in the Aqueduct paddock on June 30. Friends of Iafe Block Were cheered to learn that his condition is greatly improved. Mr. Block has l een seriously ill for a considerable time, and a few days ago his life was despaired of.
