PANDERA AGAIN TO FORE « Gives Further Evidence of High Quality in Clover Stakes. King Jimmy Beats Rocky I.ane in Close Finish — Steeplechase to ireentree Stables Hrantome. I NEW YORK. N. Y., June 21— Harry Payne Whitneys Pandera. the brown daughter of Peter Pan and Dendera. gave further evidence of her high quality at Aqueduct Thursday when she was an easy winner of the five-eighths of the Clover Stakes. This is a filly prize that was wortli ,075 to the winner. At the end she was showing the way to No Regrets, from the Swingalong Stable, and I.odina. bearing the silks of Emil Herz" Short Crass Stable, had little trouble beating Tip Top, a Greentree Stable starter, lor third. There were thirteen starters when Sun Affinity was scratched for the reason she was not eligible, as published in Daily Racing Form, ajid A, C. Schwartz added Cermaine Chauvelot, his recent purchase from John E. Madden. They were an unruly band and it was six minutes before an alignment could be obtained. They left in close order, but through the early racing Pandera suffered not a little interference, for which Ambrose, on Sun Fairy, seemed to be chiefly to blame. No Regrets left in her stride and Sharpe epiickly raced her into a lead of three h-ngths with Sun Fairy in second plae-e on the outside, and then followed Tip Top. Pandera and I.idina, all in close order. The others were rather badly strung out. with Hail Columbia, the Jeffords starter, last of them all. No Regrets held her lead until well inside the last eighth, but by that time McAtee had worked Pandera into second place and he was riding confidently. Iti that last eighth the filly moved to the front without an effort to be winner by five lengths and No Regrets saved second place by a length from i-odina. with Tip Top a distant fourth. There was a delightful break in the weather that resulted in a surprisingly large orowil being in attendance. The third was a mile claiming handicap that brought a stirring finish, when Frank Crowns King Jimmy just beat home Rocky Eane. from the lm Brae Stable, with Mrs. A. Swenkes Sherman the one to be third. Fraternity II. and Squarson were the only other starters. Sherman jumped away into a long early-lead, and Coltiletti stepped him right along, while Fator rated King Jimmy along under a stiff restraint back of him, and Rocky I.ane raced alongside the Brown candidate, with Squarson and Fraternity II. both being outrun. Sherman was still well clear of the others as he swung into the long stretch, but there Mortensen made his move with Rocky I.ane. and the three-year-old was closing so rapidly that Coltiletti went to the whip. Sherman fought along for a time, but he had little left, and Rocky Rane soon had him headed, but Fator hacl timed his run better than Mortensen and. when he went to work on Continued on riajhetmth pane- i PANDERA AGAIN TO FORE Continued from first page King Jimmy, the race was won. The pah* of them came to the finish closely lapped, but King Jimmy had earned the verdict. Caporal II., racing for Al J. Davis, waa best of the cheap ones that met in the seven-eighths of the fifth race and, finding his way- into command at the long stretch, he held his company perfectly safe. I. B. Humphreys Miss Nantura, after racing forwardly throughout, saved second place, and W. L Olivers Shiraz beat Nora Hayes for the short end of the purse. High Commander and Miss Nantura were the ones to cut out the early running, but both Shiraz and Caporal II. soon joined them, while the rest of the field was more or less strung out. Midway of the long stretch Caporal II. had the others beaten and he had something left at the end. Rather an ordinary band of platers maiden two-year-olds met in the opening five-eighths dash and J. A. Harpers Crimdus was winner from P. H. Faulconers I.aska anil Edward Arlingtons Is Zat So saved third from the Greentree StableVs Acsacid. There was a bit of bumping at the start and Satyr was badly knocked out of it, while Priceless, the C. Leroy King starter, was another unfortunate. Ropes End raced forwardly in the early stages, but it was Laska and Is Zat So that cut out most of the running. In the last sixteenth Crimdus made his winning bid. finishing in the firm going well out from the rail. The steeplechase of the day over the short course resulted in a real Greentree Stable victory when Brantome was first and Erne II., from the same stable, second. Ravel, from Thomas Hitchcocks Broad Hollow Stable was third and far back of him Horace Groom beat Burton II. for fourth. Kangaroo was the only other to finish when Enchantment lost his rider in the back field and Pink Star fell two fences from the finish with Bombino falling over him. Fortunately the riders escaped serious injury. There was little to the running as far as Brantome was concerned. He went into an early lead and he was never headed. Kan -garoo attempted to go with him, but soon gave up the struggle and then it was Erne II. that moved into second place back of his stablemate. Ravel was racing forwardly while Burton II. was under double restraint and saving ground all the way, but he ran into a bit of trouble from time to time. Hardy had him up in the third place on the second turn of the course, but when he challenged the Greentree pair they drew out from him and it was his final bid. Through the front field Brantome and Erne II. had them all well oeaten. but Ravel was gallopng along gamely and that was the finish. Hardy, realizing that Burton II. was well whipped for third, eased his mount slightly in the run home and then when James brought Horace Groom up with a rush he could not rouse Burton II. soor enough to save third. Enchantment jumped miserably throughout and was always a bad last until he finally landed so badly that Lambert was unseated. Delegate, from the Everglade Stable, was one of the easiest winners of the day, when he was home in front of the cheap ones in the seven-eighths of the sixth race. Maiben had the mount and, steering a wide course all the way, where he found the best going, raced into command after swinging for home, and he was five lengths clear and in hand at the end. Jefferson Livingstons Bagdad outfinished the others, taking second place, and he was a length and a half before Gladstone, which only saved third by a head from Zero Hour. The mile at the end of the program was only a nice workout for Espino as an important part of his preparations for the Dwyer Stakes. He was not opposed by much and was winner in the good time of 1 :38. After the finish, Eddie Barnes continued with the Ziegler colt to work out the mile and a quarter in 2:05%, a remarkable performance. The fractions were :23%, :47, 1:11%, 1:38, 1:51% and 2:05%. It was a race and a workout that more than ever made it appear that Espino was indeed an unfortunate colt in the Belmont Stakes, and a performance that gives his Dwyer Stakes stock a decided boost. Abe Hallow, acting for H. T. Archibald, has taken second call on the services of R. Carter for the rest of the eastern season, which includes fall racing in Maryland.
