At Fairmount Park ROTAUIAX— « AltU— HIDDEN JEWEL. . A large field will very likely go postward for the opening number when the bugle sounds. It is a claiming affair over the three-quarters distance, and in which some ordinary ones meet. ROTARIAN showed such an improvement in his last outing that we are compelled to place him on top. It may be that he has hit his stride now and. that being the case, believe he could cop here. GARB, a son of Peter Quince, has been threatening of late and is about due to turn in one of his good efforts. It he races in his best manner today, think he will get the place. The veteran HIDDEN .1RWKL has not won a race for many a day now, but in his last appearance suggested that he is not far off from a winning performance. Third should be his lot, JtADIAXE— GNOME SECOND — SHASTA GltAFTON. Maiden juveniles are to do their stuff in the second offering and, of these, RADIANCE looks like the most probable winner, | basing on previous races. In her last start, she put up a good race to get the place behind Minna I een in fairly fast time. If she were to put forth the same efforts today, think she would be the winner against this easier company. The danger in the race is GNOME SECOND. He finished third in the same race won by Minna, and in several others was good enough to get the place or show money. If he ever gets out in the front, count the race his. The Shastas have been more or less successful here and SHASTA GRAFTON is no exception. She has been bang-up in most of her starts and is going to get down in front one of these days. Her usual race should find her occupying the three hole. SHINING GOLD— KENDALL— KINGSCLERE. Another claiming race over the three-quarters route is offered for the third and we think SHINING GOLD is good enough to win it. She seems to be in with horses more of her own class and in her present good form should not have a great deal of trouble in scoring. KENDAIJ., was unplaced in his only start here after being victorious in his one start at Aurora. That race was on a slow track and with firm footing the order today, expect him to show to much better advantage. KIXOSCLERES recent races have to be passed to give him a look in for some part of the purse money. Reports have it that he is taking to his workouts in a kindly manner and a race back to those trials should see him well up when the finish line is reached. LONG POINT— ORBIT— BATSMAN. The Highway Police Purse, to be run as the fourth, brings together some of the better grade of sprinters. LONG POINT was made the medium of a heavy play in his last out, but could not match his speed with Run- I .dark and Bradleys Toney. Neither of those I racers are scheduled to start in this contest and his chances should be enhanced by their absence. He is more than due and we think today will find him entering the winners circle. ORBIT, which races for Koerner, ran one of his good races to win his last out and if he repeats that effort will likely prove troublesome. The Pueblo Stable color bearer. BATSMAN" is in rare form right now and he too will have to be reckoned with if he runs in his usual manner. BLOCKHEAD— BIG HE ART— CAPISTRANO. The Bradley cast-off, BLOCKHEAD, dopes to be the winner of the fifth, over the sprinting distance of five and a half furlongs. Koerner gave him a couple of tighteners since arriving here and he should be in fine fettle and ready to run now. He is in receipt of eight pounds from BIGHEART, which looms as his most likely rival. The latter finished third in his last start, but beaten many lengths and far away from his best effort. When in trim he could beat this kind of company without the slightest trouble, but fortuneately for the others he is not. CAPISTRANO was most consistent at Ti-; juana last winter and beat some good ones I at times. This will be his first appearance here and how he will fare remains to be ; seen. I CHEMISERIE— FIRTH OF TAT— Bit KO. The Wood River, to be decided as the I sixth, is the only distance event on the card. I it being at a mile and three-sixteenths. The imported CHEMISERIE is given the call here on the strength of his last race, when he lead the way home to Merulina and Alard. among others. That was over the mile and an eighth route and at the finish he showed a disposition to go further. FIRTH OF TAY has done nothing to warrant giving him a chance at the purse but basing on some ; information we received, is ready for a ;good effort. The Johren racer, BUCKO, is : picked to run to third for want of something better. I LUPINE— FORETEM SPATS. Either of the last two races run by LU-| PINE would be good enough to win here ; and. for that reason, we like her for the ; final race en the card. She seems to be in good trim at the present and only needs to | race in the same manner to again be home the winner. FORETELL, can do better than i his last race made him out to be. In his I two races before that, he was the winm-r J once and second in the other. A return to that form should see him capturing the place money today. SCATS seems destined to meet defeat today. He has won his last four starts in a row, but we think he has done | his share and is due to fall back into the | rut. Of course, we may be all wrong, but I that is our way of looking at it. One Best Bet — CHEMISERIE, in the Sixth Race.
