At Aurora One Best Bet — IRON MASK IT. — in the Fifth Race. The heavy fall of rain Thursday night i and Friday morning obliterated any chance ] for a fast track for Saturdays racing. A fine program lias been arranged for the half holiday and it would surely have been the banner day of the meeting, if the going was in any kind of condition. However, there are plenty of horses entered for the various events and the sport should not suffer to any noticeable degree. The Chicago Handicap, with ,000 added, over the three-quarters distance, is the principal feature on the card and this attracted a fine field of sprinters to strive for the honor of winning. Several top-notchers will be seen in action here which have never started over the local course to date, this meeting. Among the cracks entered are Iron Mask II., Sanola. Devon. Glenister II., Brilliant and others of equal class. It is going to take a horse with strong underpinning to make the grade in the various events today, the additional rain tending to make the going deep in mud. There are plenty of this particular kind entered, however, and the task now is to pick them out from the inferior ones. Following are the selections for todays races : WILDRAKE— MONASTERY— RUSHEE. WILDRAKE found the shorter distance of five and a half furlongs more to h*s liking in his last start and, as a consequence, was able to win. He had showed well in both of his previous races, but they were at three-quarters and were possibly just a trifle too long. Todays race is at the shorter distance and we look for the son of Sir John Johnson to register another win. MONASTERY has two wins to his credit, both easily, but he is meeting up with better company today and his task is a much harder one. RUSHEE is in his best form and should be able to hold the others safe for third money. ALETO is liable to cause some trouble. COLONEL SCHOOIER is not far from a winning performance and will bear watching today. PEGGY L— POWER— BASHA. The improved form shown by PEGGY O. in her last start gives her the call in the second number, another five and a half furlongs dash. She was right at home in the going in her winning essay and would only have to duplicate that race here to run her siring of victories to two in a row. POWER is a good mud runner and should be the one to give PEGGY O. the most contention. She has a win and a second to date at this meeting. BASHA, owned by the oldest active person on the turf, Tom Cheek, raced so well in his last start that he must be given consideraton in this field. MEDDLING SETH is always dangerous and rates a good chance. REDSKIN may prove a repeater. WILLIAM DIGGINS is meeting much better opposition here and is not expected to add another win to his score. PAUL WEIDEL IL— TIIEO. FAY-UPDIKE. The third promises to be a tight tilt between PAUL WEIDEL II. and THEO. FAY, with the former gven the call. He possesses a bit more class than the son of Theo. Cook and has shown one winning effort in the going such as will most likely prevail today. He is usually a fast starter and, if he once gets in the lead, dont think the others will be able to stop him. THEO. FAY is plainly second best, but do not think he can I beat the Gentilly Stable racer. UPDIKE gets consideration on his last winning performance and may hold the others safe for third money. TORMENTOR prefers a fast track, although he has showed well at times in the mud. THE ABBOT— GAY HALLIE— THE ROLL CALL. Play THE ABBOT to repeat seems to be the correct solution of the fourth race, a three-quarters test. He won his only race with such ease that it is hard to figure how he is going to be beaten today if he performs in the same manner. GAY HALLIE raced far below her best form in her last race, although she closed a good gap at the finish to take third money. She is bound to improve over that race and appears to be the one to chase THE BBOT home. THE ROLL CALL is making his first appearance at this course and how he will fare at this distance is to be seen. He likes a longer route but his early speed may be enough to find him among the first three at the finish. PANOREL may show to better advantage today. IRON MASK IL— SANOLA— GOLDEN MAC. In the Chicago Handicap IRON MASK II. is asked to shoulder 120 pounds, the top weight in the race. This may seem to be too much of a burden for him to overcome but he has done it before and, in his present fine form, should do it again. He is meeting some fast ones, however, and he will have to put forth his best efforts to turn the trick. At that, he figures as the best play on the card. SANOLA won a game race her last out and figures as the one IRON MASK II. has to beat. She is to carry but 110 pounds. GOLDEN MAC was a mighty useful horse at Jefferson Park and would only have to race in his best form to take down the show end of the purse here. BALBOA is always dangerous, though he may prefer a longer distance. OLENISTER II. is not without a chance. DEVON should not be ignored. LETTER SIX— GUNSIGHT— TREASURER, Throwing out the last race run by LETTER SIX, he would stand an excellent chance of taking down the purse in the sixth. In his race previous to his last out he won as his rider pleased, finishing five lengths ahead of his opponents. That performance duplicated here would so • him getting home in front again. GUNSIGHT won his only time out here and may give LETTER SIX plenty of argument. TREASURER likes the going and would prove a real danger if he raced back to his last winning trip. FOOLSCAP figures to hold the others safe. INDIAN TALES— BARB WIRE— POISON. The final number on the card is over the mile and a quarter distance and it will take a good horse to win here. INDIAN TALES is a good distance performer and already has a win and a second to his credit at this meeting. He will not have the services of Peterson in the saddle today, but only has to give forth his best efforts under any rider to win. BARB WIRE is in good form as shown by his winning race earlier in the week and he likes the distance. He would not surpiise by winning. POISON is given the call for third on the strength of her last race. LEXINGTON MAID must not be taken too lightly. The others are a bit outclassed.
