April 5.— Clyde Van T usen has tvv. nty-: ix horses in preparation here He is part owner with W. E. Apple-gate in throe of the older racers, while Mr. Applegate. 11. P. Gardner and W. . Goodloe are owners of the others. An oven dozen of the horses are two-year-olds. a majority the property of Mr. Gardner. Names for seven of the youngsters which the Amsterdam, N. Mr. Gardner, in naming his horses, formerly employed the adjective "sixty," ths yearls deviation from that system being the only break since he became an annual buyer of young material. Van Dusen has Torchilla. which was turned out most of last year, back in training, as well as Kittle Torch, Hy Schneider, Sixty, Eleven Sixty. Twelve Sixty. Seventeen Sixty, Nineteen Sixty. Twenty Sixty, Tventy One Sixty. Miss Torch. Best Spade. Edna Cook and Wondenr.an. The two-year-olds in the division of the J. N. Camden stable are showing up well in their training gallops, and a number have already shown speedy trials. This morning two of them breezed three-eighths in :38Vs. and finished the half mile in :52. Rolled Stocking is training soundly and improving with each day. This morning he breezed three-quarters in creditable time. Lawrence Jones, prominent citizen of this city and a director in Churchill Downs, paid a visit to the track this morning to inspect the young horses in the stable of Dan Lehan, which he owns in partnership with that trainer. The youngsters are all good lookers and are doing famously in their training. The star of the lot is a brown colt by King Colin — Beauty, which has been named Paul Revere. Another promising youngster is a chestnut colt by Whiskaway — Margaret Win-sor. which has been named Whiskwin. The colt is the first of the get of Margaret Win-sor to be sent to the races. The third in the list is an unnamed filly by Huon — Rose Estill. Hush Dear, a filly by Pennant, which arrived here from New Orleans in the Mose Goldblatt consignment and which is among the dozen of the H. I. Whitney entries to the Kentucky Derby, has ended her racing days. Today she was shipped to the Whitney farm near Lexington, where she will be retired to the stud. John Wallers arrived at Churchill Downs this morning with nine horses belonging to George M. llendrie. They came from winter quarters at Gallatin, Tenn. Six Horses belonging to J. J. Beckham arrived todav and secured quarters at Douglas Park In all probability jockey Carl Meyer, under contract to Stuyvesant Peabody, will ride for the stable of H. P. Headley at the Lexington meeting. Should trainer McCarvey decide not to race any of the Peabody horses at I exington he will turn Meyer ove to Mr. Hendley. Trainer Barney Michell was advised that the imported mare Helen Betty, which Mrs. J. D. Hertz secured last fall for a rge amount of money, had dropped a nice looking bay colt, by Politician, at Leona Earms. It was the first foal of the season to arrive at the farm. Prjror Phelps, prominent young spoilsman of this city, he.s a fine looking yearling by Tryster — Wavering at his farm near Shelby-ville. The youngster is a half brother to Captain Hal. A
