PIMLICOS SPRING PROGRAM Program Book For Meeting From May 1 to May 12 Reveals An Attractive Array of Events. BALTIMORE. Md.. April 5. -The program book of the Pimiieo Spring Meeting, from May 1 to 12, is a comprehensive compilation trf over 100 pages, and contains besides the conditions of the meeting a complete list of entries to the ten stakes, which provide a fixture for practically each day of the meeting. The historic Dixie is scheduled for the opening day, and the famous Preakness for Friday. May 11. There will be a steeplechase on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with the ,000 Green Spring Valley Steeplechase on Saturday. May 5. giving six opportunities for the cross country performers. Two-year-olds are well taken care of. as is natural, considering the large number of juveniles in training, no less than seventeen races being set aside for their exclusive benefit. These include the Pimlico Nursery, Spring Juvenile and Homebred, all fixtures that closed February 10, with a record-breaking, lists of entries from the leading stables. For the older horses liberal condition and claiming races and handicaps are provided, the purses ranging in value from ,300 to ,000 each, and to prevent crowding at the clubhouse turn, all mile events have been extended to a mile and seventy yards, giving more space for the field to straighten out after leaving the barrier. The Pimlico Graded Handicaps, divided into three classes at three-quarters each, are scheduled for Tuesday. May S, entries closing Friday. May 4, weights to be announced Monday. May 7. As usual. 0.00 will be presented to the trainer of the winner of each race, and the new rule of the Maryland Racing Commission governing awards to breeders will be put into effect. This provides that if the winner of any race is bred in Maryland the breeder, if living, will receive 50 if the race is an overnight event, or 00 if a stake. This is in line with recent efforts to help the breeding industry and should encourage Maryland breeders to produce the best in the land. The first race eac . day will start at 2:30 p. m., and there will be seven races daily, the office at Pimiieo will be opened at 8 a. m.. entries closing at 10:30 a. m. Declarations from handicaps must be made by 10 a. m. Among the newly named purses are the Mackenzie, Trojan and Fair Gain, so called after popular stallions standing in Maryland, with the Chesapeake. Arundel, Druid Hill and Hill-Top. recalling familiar localities in the city and state.
