FAIRMOUNT DERBY ENTRIES » Leading Three-Year-Olds Are Nominated for 5,000 Stake. ♦ International Rivalry Promised, with Fng- llsli, Canadian and German-bred Horses Among the Kliglblcs. ♦ ST. LOUIS. Mo.. April 20.— With l-O nominations, which include all outstanding three-year-olds now racing or iu preparation for racing this season, the Fairmount Derby, the 5,000 feature of the spring meeting of the Fairmount Jockey Club, looms upon the turf horizon as one of the most important of the seasons classics. In quality and number of eligibles the rich event will compare with the long established stakes of the older race courses. This stake will be run on June 2 with sufficient time between the running of the Preakness Stakes and the Kentucky Derby to permit of the participation of the outstanding contestants in th- older classics. In addition to the American-bred horses the" list of nominations includes a number of English breeding, several of which raced in that country successfully as two-year-olds. Some are from Canada and one was bred in Germany. Indications are that the Fairmount Derby will again provide the keen sectional rivalry between Eastern and Western owners that the two previous runnings of the event witnessed, as all of the most prominent owners have nominated their best three-year-olds, it may be expected that the result of this race will have an impartant bearing in determining the champion three-year-old of 1928.
