ENTHUSIASM AT HAMILTON Spirited Finishes Please Spectators at Ohio Course — Barberry Accounts for Feature. HAMILTON, Ohio. May 22.— Barberry, carrying the colors of Fred Hayes, Columbus, Ohio, sportsman, showed his heels to his opponent at all stages of the fifth race, which attracted the best field at the Fair Grounds this afternoon. At the end he scored with considerable to spare. Wine Jug was always in closest pursuit, bat she barely lasted to save second place from Stanmore, which suffered serious interference shortly after the start. Under ideal conditions racing was staged here today, and the sport generated considerable enthusiasm. One of the best finishes of the day came in the third race, in which Carrie Belle, popular favorite, just lasted to earn the verdict by a neck from Mabel Seth, with Foretop a close third, after racing forwardly throughout. Ciene Luz Bavelle Fronk, two-year-old daughter of Escoba, scored her third victory when she came from behind the leaders in the stretch to take the initial race by a head from the fast-finishing Miss Beavcrkill. Oh Me, after racing Western Eagle into defeat, was a tiring third. Overcoming early interference, Barcroft assumed command after the first quarter of the second race and retained a length advantage at the end. Spring Bud, always prominent, was an easy second, and Calzona came from behind to beat the others home.
