CALGARY SPRING RACING Meetings on Northv/est Canadian Circuit to Begin at Victoria Park Today. CALGARY, Alberta, May 22.— The annual spring racing of the Prairie Thoroughbred Breeders and Racing Association will be ushered in at Victoria Park, Calgary. Wednesday, May 23. A long spring season of racing awaits the 350 or more runners assembled here. In these spring meetings at Calgary and later at Winnipeg, all under the direction of R. James Speers, there will be distributed 35,000 in purses. For seven days the runners will hold forth at Victoria Park and then they will move over to the new mile plant of the Chinook Jockey Club in Calgary. After seven days there the sport will be transferred to Winnipeg for the first seven-day meeting in the Manitoba capital at Polo Park, its opening coming June 16. Then follows the seven-day meeting at New Whittier Park, June 26 to July 3, inclusive. This will end the spring racing, but there will be meetings in Calgary and Winnipeg in the late summer and early fall. Judge George W. Schilling, who hac been the presiding stewarl for several years at Calgary and Winnipeg, will again officiate as the presiding official. The starting will again be in the hands of James Donovan, who officiated at Calgary and Winnipeg, with much satisfaction last year. E. D. Adams, a veteran of racing, will be the steward representing the Prairie Thoroughbred Breeders Association. H. D. Monroe has again returned as racing secretary.
