BOB SPAULDING SURPRISES Outsider Takes Purse in Best Race on Final Day of Hamilton Spring Meeting. HAMILTON, Ohio, June 2.— R. Corbets Bob Spalding furnished a surprise when he took the measure of one of the best bands starting at the Fair Grounds this afternoon. Never far from the leader, Northern Star, he took command in the last quarter and, under energetic riding, withsood a challenge from Atador in the stretch to win by a small margin. Gladstone ruled favorite, but was carried wide in the early stages. He worked his way up on the inside on the last turn and was a creditable third at the end. The running of todays program was the finish of the meeting and the racing waa staged under ideal conditions. The attendance was excellent, the stands being crowded to capacity. ♦ Gene Lutz Bavelle Fronk scored her fourth consecutive victory when she won the initial race rather handily, alter shaking off Rocky Don when straightened out in the stretch. The latter was doing his best to save second place from Oh Me. At no stage of the second race did Vacation Time leave th« result in serious doubt. Fortop disposed of Uncle Brt with little effort in the stretch drive for the second place honors. Happy Hobo took command after half the distance in the third race and retained a safe lead thereafter. In the final drive Our Bicker, a despised outsider, outstayed Bart for second place. A . 1 .
