KRISS FILLY REPEATS ■ • Blushing Maiden Again Shows Winning Form at Arlington. • ■ Sphere Scores Lucky Victory Over Majeste in Fourth Race — Last Ladies Day of Meeting. ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., June 29.— Blushing Maiden, which figured in a successful winning effort in her preceeding start, was again victress over six others that comprised the field starting in the feature race at Arlington Park today. Blushing Maiden was an easy victress, and her success was pleasing, as she ruled an outstanding favorite. She was fast at the start and. under hustling tactics, gained a good lead at once and held sway thereafter to win well in hand from Participate, with Magic Wand up in the last strides to down the poorly-ridden Golden Mac. The race was at seven-eighths, and was witnessed by an immense crowd, in spite of threatening weather and the knowledge that a severe track would prevail. The attendance was augmented considerably by the fact that it was the last Ladies Day here for some-lime. The women were guests of the Arlington Park management. Because of the difficult track small fields were again the rule, and the starters were primarily those that have been seen in continuous action during the last two weeks. The racing was again ordinary with the unexpected occuring frequently, due to blunders of horses as well as poorly judged rides. The mistakes were natural and attributable in the main to the difficult footing. Considering the many drawbacks a surprising volume of mutuel play was totaled for the afternoon. CERA B. TO THE FORE. Gera B., in C. H. Knebelkamps colors, carried off the purse in the opening race when she was home in advance of Edgewater, with Captain Haney in third place. The latter had scant opportunity after his rider had taken him back sharply immediately after the start into last place. He closed an immense gap, but was unable to overhaul Gera B. and Edgewater. The winner was favored by her light weight and showed a liking for the difficult going. Another favorite was downed when Hidden Thoughts failed in the second race and was beaten by Biff Raff. The latter benefited by the start, whereas Hidden Thoughts, as a result of the unprepardness of her jockey, suffered and was in last place when the others were a considerable distance in advance. She closed an immense gap in resolute style, but was unequil to the task of wearing down the winner. La Sagette was far in advance of Hand Or, .vhich had won easily on the preceeding day. Another favorite was downed when C. H. Knebelkamps Helen E. finished in third place, being decisively beaten by Pee Wee and Ben Handly. Pee Wee scored with ridiculous ease, having taken command after the first quarter and winning thereafter as the rider pleased. Ben Handly, well up from the start, needed his earlier advantage to retain second place, for Helen E., after settling in her stride in the stretch, finished strongly. Jubelte Esquin showed good speed for half a mile, but thereafter was done and retired fast. SPHERES LUCKY TRIUMPH. Sphere was victor in the fourth race. His victory was a lucky one and with better riding of Majeste he would have reversed the decision with the winner. Ball Gee w:.s the offending favorite here. He finished in third place. Sphere was hustled in*j the lead after the first quarter and came into the stretch with a big margin, but in the last sixteenth, tired fast. It required his riders best effort to keep him in advahce on the fast finishing Majeste. Had the latter been allowed to race with the leaders in the earlier stages, instead of being taken back, he probably would have won. Ball Gee raced well for half a mile, but when he was ridden into the heavier going in the stretch he tired badly and just lasted to outstay Rolling Star. Oley ran disappointingly under an un-indifferent ride, and Red Sublette was done after half a mile. Far Away furnished the upset in the sixth race when he won well in hand from Force with the favorite. Knave of Clubs, in third place. Far Away, benefited by an energetic ride from Leyland, moved up fast and steadily under urging and, heading Knave of Clubs beginning the stretch run, held sway thereafter to win well in hand. Force came from far back in the last quarter and continued gamely. Knave of Clubs tired badly, and Her Answer, another that was well supported, suffered interference and stepped in a hole, causing his elimination. The final race found Sweet Mandy the favorite and, securing an adv; ntage at the start, she was able to win in easy fashion from Tea Tray, an outsider, with Uuon Pine leading the others. .Sweet Mandy showed a liking for the stiff going and increased her advantage with every stride during the stretch facing.
