The latter was taken back in the first eighth when it appeared he might suffer from interference and came fast when ridden hard. CAPTAIN 1IANEY was taken completely back after tie-ginning fast and closed an immense gap. DAD LUCK tired from rating in the deepest going. PORTED UP quit badly. SPHERE moved into the lead with a rush after going the first quarter and drew out in the stretch but, tiring fast right at the end, had to be hustled hard to outstay MAJESTE. The latter began well. but was allowed to drop out of it and. closing a big gap in the stretch, was gaining fast. DAI.L GEE was away well, but raced in the deepest going through the stretch, causing him to tire. ROLLING STAR came steadily in the stretch. OI. PARTICIPATE moved into prominence soon after the start and ■ continued gamely. MAGIC WAND, far out of it for a half mile, saved much ground in the stretch and was up in the last stride for third place.
