The latter disposed of SUN ECLIPSE, but could not withstand the rush of the winner. SUN ECLIPSE, well up in the early racing, tired at the end. COUNT PALATINE began slowly and could not improve his position. GREY HAWK was away slowly. CYRANO quit. LA PALOMA was as good as left. Start good and slow. Won driving; second and third the same. FAIRFIELD jumped well and showed good speed, overcame repeated Interference from POLISH and outgnnied him in the final drive. The latter, a forward factor all the way, bore over badly after taking the final jump and finished well. SKEDADDLE was rated along under restraint to the first turn of the field, but could not gain on the leaders when called upon. MADRIGAL II. showed a good performance. HUFFY fell at the seventh jump. CRAZY COOT displayed good speed from the start, was put under pressure an eighth from the finish and outstayed KEEP ON in the final strides. The latter, a factor all the wav, made a determined effort when called upon and finished gamely. CYMBAL, on the outside all the way, finished resolutely when called upon. BLACK MAJESTY finished fast. The latter forced the pace throughout, made a determined challenge when called upon and was wearing the winner down. HOT TODDY, a factor throughout, tired at the end. BLUE LARKSPUR, away well and taken under restraint, was sent through on the inside on the far turn after being taken back for a breathing spell, responded to urging near the stretch turn and responded to pressure gamely at the end. AFRICAN moved up fast when called upon, made a wide turn entering the stretch and was being ridden out at the finish. JACK niGH, close up throughout, moved into the lead between calls entering the stretch, but tired at the end. BEACON HILL set a good pace in the going under steady restraint, but tired badly at the end. SUNVIR finished gamely. LIVE OAK gained ground near the end.
