THE BAT, well np during the early stages, moved up fast after reaching the stretch turn and, taking a commanding lead, held it under mild pressure. McCULLOCH, forced back when approaching the turn, recovered slowly, then closed with a rush. VERA C. raced wide and gamely outlasted MARIA NASH. The latter tired badly after showing good speed for five-eighths. SUN LYNN was done after going half a mile. WHISP lost much ground while moving up fast in the first quarter, then followed close to the pacemaker under restraint to the stretch, where he responded well when ready and, taking the lead, won going away. FIDDLER displayed good speed from the start, saved ground, but tired near the end and probably will improve. GOOD INDIAN saved ground on the stretch turn and finished resolutely.; SOUTHLAND PRINCE had no mishap. BEST BALANCE had early speed. SISTER ZOE, easily best, but benefited by the spirited contest of the others for the early lead, moved up with fine speed after reaching the turn and, racing into a good lead, easily held it. BLUSHING MAIDEN dropped back 6lightly after three-eighths, but came gamely under pressure in the stretch and wore down HERRICK. The latter displayed slightly the most early speed, saved ground and held on fairly well. PIGEON HOLE was forced back on the turn and raced wide thereafter. SMOLDER I NO began tiring after showing speed to the stretch. LUCILE began fast, but appeared to experience difficulty in finding her stride, but fin-J ished gamely after going wide on the stretch turn. MA YERKES began quickly and saved ground after being headed and, forcing the pace, tired in the final drive. LADY FINOERS had no mishap. SWEEPING WILLOW stumbled repeatedly • and after moving up on the stretch turn, held on well. STAR LAS* SIE had early speed but swerved out badly on the stretch turn. The latter, much used disposing of DINNER DANCE, swerved badly after reaching the stretch and tired in the final eighth. VIRADO, slow to begin, bore in badly during the final quarter. FIRE UNDER followed in closest pursuit of the pacemaker under restraint to the stretch, where he slowly wore down LAMKIN, but after drawing clear tired and just lasted. TOMMY bore in badly all the way and was brought to the outside of the winner with difficulty in the stretch, finishing fast and just failing to get np. LAMKIN showed the most speed from the start, saved ground and tired in the drive. BLACK THUNDER showed an even ra.e. STARS AND STRIPES and BEAUMONT tired. THUNDER GIRL, poorly ridden, was taken back repeatedly and could not improve her position in the final drive. Overweight — Thunder Girl, 1 pound. ~ ■ — —
