GREAT NUMBER OF WINNERS Star Shoot, Ballot and Wrack Predominate in That Respect During Last Sixteen Years. Star Shoot, Ballot and Wrack dominate the list of stallions who had the most number of winners within the last sixteen years. Regardless of the question of whether or not they had quality, they most assuredly had the speed and knack of winning frequently. Certainly Wracks progeny made an enviable record in 1926, when they won 207 races and 42,629 in money. Wracks record of money winnings was the high mark, but Star Shoots sons and daughters in 1916 won 216 races, the greatest number to the credit of any of the stallions shown. Star Shoot was the leading stallion in point of winners from 1914 to 1919, six consecutive years. He was prolific and his offspring were usually" hardy and enduring. With sixty-nine descendants racing in 1914, they won 167 races and 5,987. The following year seventy-two horses claiming Star Shoot as their sire won 151 races and 7,983. In 1916 the figures show eighty-seven starters, 216 victories and 38,162. The last year of the great Madden stallions leadership, 1919, was his best in point of money won, but his poorest in point of victories, only fifty-five first places falling to his credit. McGee was the leader in 1920. The reason thereof is contained in one name Exterminator. Of course, there were other horses racing by this sire, but it was Exterminator which counted, the brilliant cup champion winning the Long Beach, Blackburn and Brookdale Handicaps, Ontario Jockey Club Cup, Saratoga Cup, Autumn Gold Cup, Toronto Autumn Cup, Pimlico Cup, Windsor Jockey Club Cup and other races. Ballot was first in 1921. He had sixty-eight horses racing for him and they won 144 races and 80,971. Celt led in 1922, his sixty-six representatives winning 114 races and 69,582. Then Ballot was first for the following three years, 1922, 1923 and 1924. Wrack was the leader in 1925, 1926 and 1927, skipped 1928 and then was the leader in 1929. It was Sweep that took the honors in 1928, with seventy-six representatives able to win 147 races and 60,704. In all cases these sires were invariably represented by one or more good horses, that is to say, horses a bit above the plater class and in some cases of the very highest class. Following are the records of the sires which had the largest number of winners in each year since 1916 : Money "Winning Itaces Year. Sire. Horses. Won.
