AMERICAN DERBY OUTLOOK General Manager C W Hay Ex ¬ pects TwentyFive Starters and Capacity Crowd As the Chicago turf army Derby bound prepares to travel from Chicago to Louisville for Kentuckys premier event Saturday May 17 C W Hay general manager of Washing ¬ ton Park has all wheels whirring for the presentation of the companion masterpiece the American Derby to be run here Saturday June 14 14It It is the conviction of Judge Hay that irrespective of the greatness of the Kentucky Derby Chicago will duplicate it in all es ¬ sentials probably surpassing it in attendance He said saidI I The enthusiasm of those who patronize racing as shown by the extraordinary crowds and patronage at Exposition Park Aurora foretells that the Chicago season will be greater than heretofore heretoforeWe We are anticipating a field of twentyfive for the American Derby and expect among the starters several stars of last year which will be absent from Kentuckys famous race II P Whitneys Whichone is among the eligibles and as it is reported that the cham ¬ pion twoyearold of last year is in training it would not be surprising to see him among the contestants for the American Derby DerbyLast Last year one of the largest crowds seen at any Chicago track witnessed the running of the American Derby and we are confi ¬ dent of even a larger attendance next month with preparations to handle as many as 5000 or more persons already under way
